Did You Know...

... that Pete Allum provided insights of the British Indoor Nationals 2022?

Last World Challenge in 2019
posted Feb 16th, 2022 - The British Indoor Nationals used to be a part of the annual World Challenge in Bedford, the largest 4-way competition in the world and in history, first unofficially, later as a championship event for the British 4-way teams. The host eventually added an 8-way competition to the event, as well.

The last World Challenge, after a change of ownership, took place in April 2019, just a week before theFAI Indoor World Meet at Weembi Lille. There were still 71 teams from 20 different countries in Bedford in 2019 before the event was discontinued.

No indoor championships were scheduled in 2020 and 2021, and the new British indoor association hosted the event last week at iFLY Basingstoke, where a total of 30 British 4-way teams celebrated the comeback of indoor competition in the United Kingdom.

It was a comeback into active 4-way training and competition for Pete Allum at the same time, one of the longest-standing skydiving competitors in the sport, and he took some time to talk about the event with the NSL News.

NSL Live Talk with Pete Allum on 16 February 2022
Pete Allum with Satori XL in 2018
Pete Allum did not need a comeback from skydiving competition that he has never left in his career. He attended many events in different disciplines, even when he did not train and compete with a 4-way team. He was also still coaching when he was not scoring 4-way points himself, often even while he was training and competing.

However, he explained during the NSL Talk that he experienced a new situation with his new team, Meraki, who placed 2nd behind Chimera and ahead of NFTO at the British Indoor Nationals last week. He said that it was the first time for him that he had a coach telling him what to do.

Meraki had worked with NMP PCH HayaBusa's 4-time world champion David Grauwels this year, who has now been filming the Belgian team since 2020. Pete Allum said that he enjoyed very much the situation as a receiver of 4-way instructions instead of trying to guide teams and competitors to their best performances.

The combination of the highly experienced coach and competitor in the Meraki lineup and HayaBusa coach David Grauwels worked very well and successfully, as the 24.3 average and the 2nd place are showing.

VFS team Omni on the AAA Class leaderboard
The three medal winners on the AAA Class leaderboard were well separated, even though each of the three top teams claimed or tied some of the highscores for rounds. Chimera, the British national team in 4-way Open, is done with indoor competition now and will focus on outdoor training and competition to get ready for this year's FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Eloy.

Pete Allum and Meraki continue with indoor competition and have the FAI Indoor World Cup on their schedule. NFTO, the British national team in 4-way Women will post their scores on the other AAA Class leaderboard in Charleroi, together with Alola's all-female lineup.

The British indoor delegation also had a 4-way Junior team at the previous FAI indoor event, the Skydive Recruitz, who were training in Bedford and competing at the World Challenges of earlier years. They have grown into senior 4-way competition now and competed in the A Class last week.

Pete Allum also pointed out that the British national 4-way VFS team, Omni, tested the AAA Class dive pool for a change, after easily winning their prime event against the Not Omni team.
