Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed competes only against themselves at Paraclete XP?

Two times Round 1: Golden Knights
image by: Anthony Armendariz for Paraclete XP
posted Feb 26th, 2022 - Round 1 of the 4-way competition included an unusual situation at the very beginning of the first competition day. The first two teams in the first rotation, Arizona Airspeed and Golden Knights, completed their flying sessions, together with XPG4 and SDC Rhythm XP.

The NSL TV Unfiltered video shows that Arizona Airspeed and Golden Knights then entered the flying chamber again to repeat the sequence of Round 1. The first videos were not recorded accurately, and both teams had to perform the same sequence a second time.

The video does not show much of a difference between the two respective performances. Only Kirk Verner knew the scoring numbers for the first and the second attempt both, as he was timing Round 1 live while watching the 4-way flying sessions before it was his own turn with Bobba Fat XP.

The 4-way Open Class leaderboard at the end of the 6-round day does not offer any surprises and mirrors the NSL Power Rankings before the start of the competition, including the teams that were added to the leaderboard on Saturday morning.

Catching up and battle for 2nd place: XPG4
Arizona Airspeed has no opposition and won each rounds easily. The closest team in a single round was Skydive Midwest NEXT, five points behind Airspeed, together with XPG4 in Round 4. The U.S. outdoor champions delivered six strong and confident performances, and they are on track to finish with a new team record average.

The five teams behind Arizona Airspeed make up for the lack of competition at the top of the leaderboard. The battle for the 2nd place has been as exciting as expected and will continue throughout the remaining four rounds.

The same five teams could still win indoor silver or bronze medals with a strong performance tomorrow. The Golden Knights, with returning team members Jesse Stahler and David Flynn, had a strong start with their two new team mates Mike Connors and Mitch Stockenberg, before Skydive Midwest NEXT and XPG4 caught up and gained momentum.

Arizona Airspeed members Joey Marshall and Mikhail Markine took the time for NSL Live Talk after their competition day was over. Mikhail Markine used to continue with 8-way when he was training and competing with AZXP8. Now he is glad that he has to focus only on one event.
