Did You Know...

... that NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed are ready for the Shamrock Showdown?

33.0 average: Arizona Airspeed at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship
posted Mar 2nd, 2022 - The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship was obviously just a walk in the park for Arizona Airspeed. The progress that Mikhail Markine and Joey Marshall felt and explained during the NSL Live Talk at half-time in Raeford is not easy to measure without the opposition of other world-class teams.

The former U.S. 4-way champions of 2019, SDC Rhythm XP, had a complete makeover, and Doug Barron is currently rebuilding the team with a new lineup. The Golden Knights had only two returning members in their lineup and attended their last 4-way or 8-way competition. Skydive Midwest NEXT is on a promising way to the world's top level but not there yet.

Fact is that Arizona Airspeed delivered ten perfect rounds without any opposition, and competition pressure came only from their own standards. The 33.0 average is one of the highest results in the history of the sport, while it is not even a new team record average, two years after the 33.3 at the Wind Games in January 2020.

It is another fact that NMP PCH HayaBusa won the same indoor event in Spain with a 34.8 average. Both teams lost five points due to penalties.

Last outdoor duel: NMP PCH HayaBusa at the USPA Nationals 2019
There is a very good reason for the review of the competition two years ago and the Airspeed performance at Paraclete XP, as both teams have already arrived at the competition site of the Shamrock Showdown at Skydive City in Zephyrhills, Floria, where they will battle again over ten outdoor rounds.

The Wind Games in 2020 was the last competition where both teams met each other directly, Arizona Airspeed for the first competition with the current lineup, NMP PCH HayaBusa with the world-champion lineup of 2016 and 2018.

The major difference between then and now is the personnel change in the Belgian lineup. Michele Silvi has replaced inside center David Grauwels in the meantime, which did not hold back the back. The first new lineup won the next world championship title at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August last year.

The next new and current lineup has Neal Willems in the inside center slot, as the NSL News reported on 17 December 2021. Michele Silvi switched to outside center, after Andy Grauwels left the team at the end of last year. The new HayaBusa lineup has no scoring data yet, and the Shamrock Showdown will define the starting point in the world meet year.

The last outdoor duel between NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed was even further back. The Belgian world champions of 2018 traveled to the United States to win the USPA Nationals 2019 at Skydive Paraclete XP, 27 points ahead of SDC Rhythm XP and Arizona Airspeed both.

Ari Perelman and Thiago Gomes left the team after the event, and Chris Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall replaced them.

It was almost exactly ten years ago when NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed both competed at the Shamrock Showdown. It was a 5-point battle that Airspeed won, which turned into the 1-point drama at the end of the same year at the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012

Only Niklas Hemlin and Dennis Praet are still in the current lineups and in the same slots as in 2012. David Grauwels is now on camera for the Belgians. The current lineups will have their next outdoor duel at Skydive City, even though it is probably the smallest Shamrock Showdown in history. The winner of the Shamrock Showdown is traditionally winning the world meet gold medals, and Arizona Airspeed is still undefeated at the event. Round 1 is scheduled for Thursday morning.
