Did You Know...

... that Skydive Midwest NEXT and SDC Rhythm XP have an indoor rematch in Charleroi?

Arizona Airspeed and NMP PCH HayaBusa at the Shamrock Showdown 2022
posted Mar 11th, 2022 - Paraclete XP Indoor Championship and Shamrock Showdown 2022 both featured Arizona Airspeed taking over and back the world's 4-way top spot, even without much international opposition until now.

Performance and scores at both events made it clear enough that it will be difficult for any other team to keep up with the Airspeed quality and pace. It was not really a big surprise, as the new lineup demonstrated its strength and potential already at the few 2020 and 2021 events.

However, it was not only Arizona Airspeed's top level performance that created the current situation. NMP PCH HayaBusa, the only serious international opponent ,was also seriously weakened when outside center and 4-time world champion Andy Grauwels left the team unexpectedly after the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 last year.

Result of the developments between January 2020 and now is a situation where Arizona Airspeed may continue to walk away from any national and international 4-way competitions without being challenged too seriously. It is a new and unusual situation that may last for a year or two until other teams will have caught up.

The NSL Power Rankings for the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 are showing the same situation on the top of the 4-way Open leaderboard, where no other team can be expected to challenge Airspeed. Two of the Russian 4-way teams, IFS-Moscow and Airborne VDV, might have been able to offer some resistance, which is not possible any longer.

As much as a tight competition for the very top spot is probably missing, there is no lack of enough potential for very exciting battles. The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022 offered that already behind Arizona Airspeed, and it will not be different in Charleroi.

In fact, two of the Top 5 in 4-way Open at Paraclete XP will have their re-match at the next indoor competition in Belgium. Skydive Midwest NEXT and SDC Rhythm XP are both registered for the indoor world cup, after their 5-point battle in Raeford.

XPG4 and Bobba Fat XP were also in this exciting battle for the medal positions behind Arizona Airspeed. They are not traveling to Europe for the upcoming indoor competition.

Rebuilding: SDC Rhythm XP at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022: Skydive Midwest NEXT
SDC Rhythm XP is in an even more challenging situation than NMP PCH HayaBusa. The NSL News reported earlier how the only returning Rhythm member Doug Barron is rebuilding a new lineup. NMP PCH HayaBusa had to replace only one team member.

Skydive Midwest NEXT's Megan George, Lauren Byrd, Greg Oldendick and videographer Elliot Byrd started their own rebuilding with newest member Gorka Amian at the beginning of last year. The new lineup posted a new indoor record average at Paraclete XP, and the SDMW team placed ahead of SDC Rhythm XP for the first time in team history.

Skydive Midwest's owner Megan George, the only remaining member of the NEXT 2015 lineup, has been developing her 4-way team carefully since launching the project in 2015. Megan George has won USPA Intermediate Class (2015) and Advanced Class (2016) titles both with NEXT, and she came back with a new AAA Class lineup in 2020, after a 3-year break.

The current NEXT lineup posted also an outdoor record average at the USPA Nationals last year, and a medal position is surely on the goal list for 2022. This may require staying ahead of SDC Rhythm XP, and the upcoming indoor competition will show both teams at their next step on the way. FAI/ISC medals will probably not be in reach in Charleroi, while the competition experience and pressure will be on the highest level anyway...
