Did You Know...

... that the original Paratec Saar lineup of 2005 attended their first indoor competition?

Paratec Saar reunion on the indoor podium
posted Apr 2nd, 2022 - The German Indoor Nationals 2022 offered more than only the successful title defense of Jochen Schweizer Arena's Airfource and the impressive performance of the country's national outdoor team, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen.

The NSL News also pointed out in the event's review on March 21st that the two 4-way Women teams, Piteraq and Skynamite, may be engaged in a new German battle for bronze medals at the upcoming FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi.

Even this was not enough of interesting treats at this year's national indoor championships. Piteraq and Skynamite competed for the German gold medals in 4-way Women and were also in contention for the 3rd place on the AAA/Open Class leaderboard.

It was still another team that actually won this race for the 3rd place on the AAA/Open Class leaderboard. Paratec Saar finished tied with Piteraq and won the bronze medals, as Piteraq would receive the gold medals in 4-way Women and did not appear officially on the German 4-way Open Class leaderboard.

Paratec Saar - Piteraq at Germany's Indoor Nationals 2022
Paratec Saar and EADS/Airbus at the Shamrock Showdown 2005
The reunion of the original Paratec Saar lineup, with brothers Joern and Max Thiele, Dieter Schwarz and Markus Bastuck was one of the highlights of the national championships, as well. Only team videographer Alexander Hau could not join the reunion celebration, as indoor competition does not need the extra camera slot.

This original lineup has the Shamrock Showdown 2005 as the team's first competition in the NSL News records, which launched one of the most successful and exciting team careers in the German Formation Skydiving history.

The story begins with Joern and Max Thiele's family bonds, who have been following their father's footsteps (Professor Hanshelmut Thiele) as future German 4-way and 8-way champions. The NSL News update on 26 February 2012 provided more information how their father was a part of the brothers' 4-way and 8-way career story.

The first competition at the Shamrock Showdown 2005 was already the start of a very exciting race for the top spot in Germany, as the reigning national champions of EADS/Airbus competed at the same event, and the new German 4-way team outscored the national champions at Skydive DeLand (162 - 156).

FSC Remscheid/Paratec Saar at the Shamrock Showdown 2005
Last meet of the original lineup in Dubai 2012
EADS/Airbus still defended the national 4-way title the same year and represented Germany once again at the FAI World Meet 2006 on German home turf in Gera. However, the 4-way dominance of EADS/Airbus was over in 2006, when Paratec Saar/Next Generation outscored EADS/Airbus again at a 4-way competition of the NSL Network.

The same original lineup eventually won the national championship title in 2007 and then competed for Germany at the next three FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving (2008 - 2010 - 2012), at each event with Alexander Hau on camera.

Max Thiele did not continue after the world meet in Dubai 2012, and the new lineup with Petra van Overveld and Luc van Britsom on camera defended the German 4-way title one more time successfully in 2013. The lineup changed even more for the world meet in Prostejov 2014, with only original members Markuus Bastuck and Joern Thiele competing for Paratec Saar.

That was the end of the story for the original 2005 lineup - until March 13th this year. That's when Paratec Saar attended their first indoor competition with the original lineup and won the bronze medals with a 22.3 average.
