... that each Czech 4-way team in Charleroi won FAI medals?

HF Flying Circus at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
posted Apr 20th, 2022 - The NSL News mentioned in the aftermath of the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 that the Czech Republic had the most successful delegation in horizontal Formation Skydiving competition. It was not only the two sets of gold medals that HF Cubs (4-way Women) and HF Flying Rebels (4-way Junior) won for their country. Each of the four Czech 4-way teams actually won FAI medals in Charleroi.

Each European winner in the world cup event automatically gets an additional FAI gold medal for the European Championship, which was embedded in the world cup. There were only European teams in 4-way Women, and each medal winner received a second set during the award ceremony.

The 4-way Junior event had the same situation, even though the second Czech team, HF Chameleons, could collect only the world cup bronze medals. Only one team per nation is eligible for medals in the European Championship, and the winner, HF Flying Rebels, represented the Czech Republic officially on the separate European leaderboard.

HF Flying Circus, the 4th Czech team, was expected to be involved in the battle for the last Top 10 position on the world cup leaderboard, together with the two U.S. teams and INIT-Y from Brazil. It turned out that the new team record average (26.0) lifted HF Flying Circus into contention for the 5th place behind the three medal winners and ISR FireFlash. It was the area where Echochamber Oceanside (Sweden) and Meraki (Great Britain) were expected to compete for the 5th place.

HF Flying Circus at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
European 4-way Open awards
HF Flying Circus eventually exceeded all expectations and left behind both teams, and also several other well trained teams from Europe. Result was another set of FAI medals for the Czech Republic, as HF Flying Circus finished in 3rd place on the European leaderboard.

The Czech 4-way Open Class team claimed their higher position on European and world cup leaderboards both from the very beginning. They finished in 6th place after four rounds at the end of the first day, as well as after Round 8, then defended the position successfully in the last two rounds.

Even the 5th place on the world cup leaderboard was very much in reach for HF Flying Circus. Only the weaker performance for the fastest sequence of the meet (Round 2), including three penalties, kept the Czech team from challenging Skydive Midwest NEXT even more seriously for the 5th place.

Three points separated both teams from each other at the end, after a new team record performance by the U.S. team, who had previously posted a 24.1 average at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022.

Skydive Midwest NEXT - HF Flying Circus - Meraki at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
HF Flying Circus at a league meet at the Hurricane Factory
Only the French 4-way Open Class team and NMP PCH HayaBusa could take the two positions on the European leaderboard, while ISR FireFlash had to make room for a different team to receive the European FAI bronze medals. NMP PCH HayaBusa represented Belgium, and HF Flying Circus were the next national team in the rankings.

The additional set of medals for the Czech delegation came unexpected, even though HF Flying Circus had shown their potential at previous meets of the Czech Tunnel League. The 26.0 average in Charleroi was the first time that HF Flying Circus touched the 26-average benchmark, however, the same lineup had four 25+ averages in their records from earlier local league meets at the Hurricane Factory.

The Czech teams have an advantage of comprehensive meet experiences, as Jan Klapka offers them regular indoor competitions on a monthly basis throughout the European winter season. HF Flying Circus attended six indoor meets between the end of the outdoor season in August 2021 and Round 1 of the indoor world cup.

The other three Czech medal winners in Charleroi were even busier at the Hurricane Factory. The HF Cubs attended eight of the indoor league meets in the same time period, HF Flying Rebels six, HF Chameleons seven. It seems like the competition practice in the league meets is showing great results in the Czech Republic...
