Did You Know...

... that chances have grown for a complete U.S. World Meet Sweep in Formation Skydiving?

Solid for U.S. Sweep: Arizona Airspeed in Charleroi
posted Apr 28th, 2022 - The NSL News covered the potential of a complete Formation Skydiving competition sweep by the U.S. delegation at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022 with the update on January 4th. It was a preview before any indoor or outdoor events were completed this year.

It has not been a new topic since France accomplished it in Menzelinsk 2010. The outdoor world meet in Russia was the first FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving with the four current Formation Skydiving categories, after 4-way VFS was added to the FAI/ISC competition format.

The French success in 2010, under national coach Jerome David, has not been copied by any delegation ever since, even though the U.S. teams were closer than ever in 2016, after winning three of the four events.

NMP PCH HayaBusa have been in anybody's way since 2014, including the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, even though the Belgians had to absorb a change in the lineup, when David Grauwels moved from inside center to camera and Michele Silvi joined the team. The Belgians had the benefit of the delay and rescheduling of the outdoor world meet, and they were able to integrate the new member successfully and timely.

Solid for U.S. Sweep: XP8 at Paraclete XP
Almost four months have gone by since the topic was brought up, for the first time related to this year's outdoor world meet. Several events, mostly indoor competitions, have been completed in the meantime, and the next world championship is only little over five months away.

Not so much has really changed, and the headline could still be the same. Arizona Airspeed have provided more than enough evidence that they plan to not allow any other 4-way Open Class team to get anywhere close. There is only a question mark behind the Qatar Tigers who have not posted any scores in 2022 yet.

NMP PCH HayaBusa's 2021 lineup were not facing Arizona Airspeed in Tanay, which decreased the pressure. Airspeed's new lineup had already passed SDC Rhythm XP, while the USPA champions of 2019 still represented the United States at the outdoor world meet last year.

This will be different in Eloy 2022, and Arizona Airspeed will probably guarantee their part of the potential FS Sweep.

U.S. indoor and outdoor delegation at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022: Arizona Airspeed - XPG4 - XP8
Solid for U.S. Sweep: SDC Core in Charleroi
XP8's new 8-way lineup, with Craig Girard, Andrew Happick and Matt Davidson, replacing Niklas Hemlin, Mikhail Markine and Chris Kuhlmann, made their statement at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022 with the 30.2 average.

France has not announced a new 8-way lineup for this year's outdoor world meet, and there is not much time left for re-building a new team that could possibly threaten XP8. Russia's 8-way team from Tanay was 13 points behind AZXP8 after seven rounds last year. It would be difficult for the same team to threaten XP8 seriously, even if Russian teams were allowed to travel to the United States in October.

The same question mark of potential participation is behind the reigning outdoor world champions in 4-way Women, Russia's Bubbles, who would be the biggest obstacle on the way to a complete FS Sweep by the U.S. delegation. The new XPG4 lineup, with Anna Brunner for Morgan Womble, had a great start into the 2022 season with the 24.6 average in February and have switched to outdoor training and competition. They will have to deal with the strong French Nephtys and probably with NFTO. However, the U.S. team seems to be on track to support the potential for a U.S. Sweep.

SDC Core have won each FAI/ISC competition since 2016 and defended the world's VFS top spot once again at Airspace Charleroi. They will surely not be in the way of a complete FS Sweep in Eloy...
