Did You Know...

... that Amer Kassas missed the meet, gold medals and the trophy at Paraclete XP?

Where's Amer lineup before the competition
posted May 11th, 2022 - The NSL News was not done with the coverage of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship when the Shamrock Showdown and the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 required additional attention. It is time to catch up with the AA/Intermediate Class competition at Paraclete XP, which has been ignored so far.

As usual, the field of teams was matching the participation in the AAA/Open Class, and it offered the most competitive leaderboard of all four categories this year. The three teams in the medal positions shared all highscores, and the winning team finished only three points ahead of the 2nd place.

In fact, silver medalist Blame it on the Booties XP was still in the lead by one point after Round 8, and Where's Amer won the meet in Round 9. It was once again a Super Sequence of only random formations (G,F,J,D) that turned out as the meet breaker.

Where's Amer and Blame it on the Booties XP did not allow each other more than a 2-point difference in all other nine rounds, and the 4-point winner in Round 9 gave the Florida team the lead for the first time. Then they carried the 3-point advantage over the finish line in Round 10.

Skydiver of the Year 2019: Amer Kassas
This year's visit of Florida Skydiving League competitors Sebastian Jimenez and Mike Talerico at Paraclete XP was probably the most interesting one, as it did not only include the USIS indoor gold medals at the national indoor championship event.

The team name indicates that they were missing an important 4-way player, Amer Kassas, who has played a vital role in Florida's 4-way community in the past years. He had not missed a Paraclete XP Indoor Championship since he traveled to Raeford for the first time in 2018, and he has been managing indoor and outdoor events in Florida for several years.

Amer Kassas' efforts were finally recognized with the National Skydiving League's Skydiver of the Year award that he earned in 2019. The corona virus crisis then interfered at the beginning of the next year, and he has not even received the trophy yet, due to the lack of event opportunities in the past two years and his extremely busy professional schedule in the healthcare world.

However, his indoor and outdoor team mates obviously remembered him and his first missing of the event, and they replaced last year's ZEUS bronze medals with gold at the Paraclete XP 2022 event.

Advanced Class gold medals in 2020: Vega XP
It was not only Amer Kassas missing this year's competition and the 3-point battle for the gold medals that made Sebastian Jimenez' and Mike Talerico's visit at Paraclete XP very interesting and exciting. They were facing their first obstacles after arrival and before the competition began.

They had recruited Nicolas Walker and Brandon Kashani for their AA/Intermediate Class lineup in February. Where's Amer were ready to enter the competition in this category when they realized that Nicolas Walker and Brandon Kashani together had won AAA/Advanced Class gold medals with Vega XP in 2020. Where's Amer would not be eligible for AA/Intermediate Class medals with this lineup.

Sebastian Jimenez and Mike Talerico together were not prepared to apply the complete FAI dive pool in a competition, and they quickly began to look for an eligible substitute. Brandon Kashani volunteered his slot, as he had a big additional task on hand anyway, with Bobba Fat XP in the 4-way Open Class, and with three world champions as his team mates.

Sebastian Jimenez and Mike Talerico found Mario Mauro, who had only 8-way plans this year, and Nicolas Walker could keep his slot, as one team member is allowed to continue after winning at an earlier event. He player-coached his three team mates to their first Paraclete XP gold medals - and Amer Kassas missed the highest position on the podium this year...
