Did You Know...

... that XPG4 and Andres Mesa have their own penalty rules and regulations?

Impressive start: XPG4 at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship
posted May 22nd, 2022 - The coverage of the recent NSL News field trips to Skydive Paraclete XP included Scott Latinis' special 42-year anniversary story, NSL Live Talk with Niklas Hemlin and the plans for the expanded and extended Spaceland Pre-Nationals 2022.

Doug Barron's Prison 9 8-way team was in training, as well, together with XPG4, the U.S. national indoor and outdoor team in 4-way Women. Niklas Hemlin has been coaching the team this year, and the NSL Live Talk with him also included a brief evaluation of the situation in 4-way Women this year.

He pointed out that XPG4, with Anna Brunner in the new lineup, is probably the dark horse in the run-up to the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022 in October, even though there is not much information available of the other expected top contenders in this category.

It's a very interesting situation in 4-way Women, as XPG4 is probably the key to the potential chances of a complete FAI gold medal sweep in Formation Skydiving competition by the U.S. delegation this year, as the NSL News pointed out on April 28th.

XPG4 at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championships 2022
XPG4 exit training with Niklas Hemlin
XPG4 is still a relatively young team project that was launched only at the beginning of the 2019 season. The team has had a different lineup for each year so far. 8-way world champions Jeana Billings and Michelle Karamon were in the original lineup of 2019 and have continued together until this year.

Brenn Richards, former Ranch 2nd Generation member, joined the lineup in 2012 after a break from 4-way training and competition, and Anna Brunner moved up to AAA Class training and competition with XPG4 this year, after her time with Kaos Theory XP in the AA/Intermediate Class.

The new and current lineup had a very impressive start with the 24.6 average and the 2nd place behind Arizona Airspeed at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022. However, the scores at the U.S. indoor championships are the only ones that the new lineup has posted yet.

The indoor season is over, and XPG4 has been training from jump planes whenever it was possible so far. The NSL News had the opportunity for an XPG4 update at last week's visit at Skydive Paraclete XP.

Internal XPG4 penalty rules and regulations
XPG4 videographer Andres Mesa, who has been filming the team since 2020, prepared his own transition from the indoor winter season to 4-way exits and freefall filming even earlier. A visit of the NSL News at Paraclete XP happened at a time when he was practicing in full gear in the flying chamber with the help of a Paraclete XP instructor, who served as the simulated 4-way formation below Andres Mesa.

It was serious physical work for the XPG4 videographer, as the video footage of his special training is showing. He takes his team-filming obviously very serious, and he is full integrated in all procedures, including special team routines, such as the team-internal penalty board.

Jeana Billings and Anna Brunner explained the penalty rules and regulations for the NSL News audience, as they required some insights to understand them. Jazz, Soup, KBB, WBK, and BL are the categories for XPG4 penalties, and Andres Mesa has his own rules.

He said that he does not have to pay into the XPG4 piggy bank under the same categories, as they don't apply to him. However, he added that he could have paid probably for all the team's pack jobs for the many times he missed frames when he learned how to fly with booties on his new jumpsuit. He did not have booties when the videos are showing him fly in the Paraclete XP chamber in February...
