Did You Know...

... that six teams from six countries competed for a different goal at the indoor world cup?

Competitors at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022

posted Jun 21st, 2022 - Every coverage of sports in general, and 4-way competition just as well, features naturally much of the action near the top of the leaderboard, with the teams who are in contention for the medal positions. However, the leaderboards usually include several additional internal battles for positioning in other areas of the rankings, and the NSL News covers as much of that as possible.

There is usually more information available of the teams in the top positions of the leaderboards, as it takes some time and attendance at enough events to become a contender for the top spots. The scoring history of the top teams and their lineups alone provide a lot of information that is interesting enough for the audience.

Once in a while, the teams and competitors in other areas of the leaderboards provide the NSL News with team profiles and additional information, which can be used to cover more than only the situation of the top teams. Beyond the usual process of collecting information remotely, the events with live coverage at the competition site allow the NSL News to feature more teams and more footage.

The major events, such as recently the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022, generate significantly more data and information than usual, and the aftermath may follow up with new content for weeks and months.

FAI Outdoor World Meet 2024 over the Red Sea
This time, the NSL News features the teams at the very bottom of the 4-way Open Class leaderboard who battled for their own highscores between each other round by round. The positions changed several times before the final rankings were settled after Round 10.

One of the previews of the FAI Indoor World Cup included NSL Live Talk with Ron Miasnikov, Israel's FAI/ISC Delegate, who had submitted a bidding proposal for the next outdoor world meet in January this year. Joey Jones joined the conversation, after Ron Miasnikov had invited him to Israel, where he was coaching indoor and outdoor teams and introduced skydivers to 4-way training and competition.

Ron Miasnikov explained in the new NSL Live Talk conversation that the participating team from Israel, Flyboys, was originally registered for the 4-way Junior competition in Charleroi. One of the team members turned out to be unavailable for the trip to Belgium, and the team had to switch to 4-way Open when a 4-way senior stepped in as the substitute.

The situation was still the same when the Flyboys arrived at Airspace Charleroi, and they became a part of the featured competition at the bottom of the 4-way Open Class leaderboard, instead of possibly contending for medals in 4-way Junior.

Israel's delegation at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
Ron Miasnikov was present at the indoor world cup with her small delegation from Israel, while Joey Jones did not make it to Belgium for the event. The Flyboys battled with Phoenix from Belgium and the Monaco 4-way team to stay away from the bottom position and finished within striking distance of the two senior teams.

Shaka from Great Britain had already distanced themselves enough from the three other teams earlier in the meet and before the opponents picked up the pace towards the end. Remarkably, the Flyboys from Israel posted their sole highscore in Round 7 for a sequence with a slot-switching block (17,D,6) that the three 4-way juniors were least prepared for.

The same four teams at the bottom of the 4-way Open Class leaderboard actually outscored a few other teams who performed the same ten sequences. The combined mixed-gender leaderboard is showing two 4-way Women teams behind the same four 4-way Open Class teams.

The six teams in this 4-way group represented six different countries, which made their own competition its own international world meet for a different goal than the world championship title.
