posted Jun 25th, 2022 - The NSL News has increased the coverage of the military CISM world championships over the years for good reasons. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers became the bridge between military and civilian 4-way competition, even though the rules of participation are very different. Golden Knights teams and competitors had also competed at CISM events randomly for the U.S. Army.

Only lineups with same-gender members are eligible for the two CISM Formation Skydiving events, 4-way Male and 4-way Female. NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers have fallen into the male category since both teams were formed, and they were naturally eligible for the CISM championships.

The scoring data at the CISM competitions is not stored on the team pages and the database of the NSL News. The leaderboards and results only appear in the NSL News updates. The rules of the CISM 4-way events are too different from any FAI/IPC rules and regulations for civilian 4-way competition, and they would not fit into the format of any FAI/ISC/NSL categories.

The NSL News has explained the special CISM rules in the past, whenever any of the bridging teams (NMP PCH HayaBusa, Qatar Tigers, Papea Masculino) attended the CISM world championships.

This year's event has been a topic for NSL News updates and NSL Live Talk for a while, as NMP PCH HayaBusa is dealing with the transition from one lineup to the next one in a special and extraordinary way. The situation of the HayaBusa lineup has been covered comprehensively

It is well know by now that David Grauwels, original team member and 3-time world champion of 2014, 2016, 2018, plus 2021 on camera, is back in the active lineup only for the CISM event in Austria this and next week. He and his respective team mates have also won 14 consecutive CISM gold medals, and NMP PCH HayaBusa seem to add the 15th set of gold medals to the collection for the Belgium military.

The HayaBusa lineup at the CISM championships is well trained, after winning the FAI gold medals at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 in August 2021. David Grauwels transitioned to the camera slot as soon as the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 was pushed back by a year, and the team currently works on integrating new inside center Neal Willems as quickly as possible.

However, more than 18 years of training with NMP PCH HayaBusa, most of it as the team's inside center, have prepared David Grauwels to get familiar with the slot without too much training. The defending CISM champions from Belgium are nine points ahead of the Qatar Tigers at half-time in Austria.

NMP PCH HayaBusa - Qatar Tigers at the 2021 CISM Military World Championships

It is unlikely that the Qatar Tigers will be able to catch up in the remaining four rounds. They tied the HayaBusa score in one of the four rounds, and it would be a major effort to eliminate the 9-point difference. In fact, each round is probably making the title defenders even stronger, as David Grauwels becomes more comfortable back in front of the camera.

The Qatar Tigers just have to be patient once again. The situation will be different in October at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022, where HayaBusa's new lineup will compete for Belgium, with inside center Neal Willems and David Grauwels back on camera.

NMP PCH HayaBusa have only little over three months to get to the same performance level that the Qatar Tigers are showing at the CISM championships, which is in this case only nine points behind after Round 4, with a 28.5 average that will be even higher after Round 8.

It will become even more interesting when Arizona Airspeed joins the CISM championships indirectly. They are performing the same sequences in training and have completed the first four rounds, as well. Videos and the combined leaderboard will be posted tomorrow. The same three teams will then switch to the FAI/IPC dive pool for the NSL Pre-Nationals Cloud 2022, which is open for all teams.
