Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's Mikhail Markine and Joey Marshall commented the CISM scores?

Scoresheet of NMP PCH HayaBusa at the CISM World Championship
posted Jun 28th, 2022 - The NSL News coverage of the 4-way action at the 2022 CISM World Championship continues with a new NSL Live Talk conversation. Arizona Airspeed's Joey Marshall and Mikhail Markine were still available for commentary of their own CISM performance during their most recent training camp last week, before they both would travel to different locations in Brazil for coaching commitments.

It was the first time for the whole current Airspeed lineup performing CISM sequences, which are very different compared to the usual FAI/ISC draw. In fact, it could have been the first time that any Airspeed lineup took on the CISM draw for training purposes and published the videos.

Joey Marshall said that they integrated the eight rounds into the team's last two days of the recent training camp, four rounds per day. Airspeed would start with the four CISM sequences and continue with their scheduled training as planned.

Joey Marshall, Mikhail Markine and their team mates were fully aware that the scores would only provide a very rough picture of the current situation, as their conditions on home turf at Skydive Arizona and the logistics of their training were totally different compared to the CISM event in Austria. However, at least the eight sequences were identical, and Airspeed enjoyed a completely different approach to 4-way competition.

Pre-Nationals 2022: Expanded, Extended and Open for all Teams

InTime operators and FAI judges: Claire King, Dirk Venter
The comparison will most likely become more realistic once the evaluation of the Airspeed rounds will be completed. The NSL News mentioned earlier that the currently posted Airspeed scores are only preliminary. InTime operators and FAI judges Claire King and Dirk Venter will bring the best and most accurate judging quality to the online game that the teams deserve.

Dirk Venter is still at the competition site in Austria, after being a part of the 4-way judging panels, and he said that the CISM judges are willing to take a closer look at the Airspeed videos, as well. Claire King is also evaluating the Airspeed videos in South Africa.

It will be very interesting and valuable for Arizona Airspeed to see how the scores are holding under the same judging conditions that the CISM teams experienced at their event. The top teams in Austria, NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers, will get a better and more realistic idea where they are currently positioned compared to Arizona Airspeed.

The conversation with Joey Marshall and Mikhail Markine also revealed that the preliminary 35.3 average after the eight CISM rounds is a new record number for Arizona Airspeed, as well, including all indoor and outdoor events in the team history.

Arizona Airspeed - NMP PCH HayaBusa with the eight CISM competition rounds
Shaped up for the break: Arizona Airspeed's exit Star
Arizona Airspeed had just posted a new team record average (34.6) at the FAI Indoor World Cup. It seems to be hard to believe that an outdoor competition could generate even higher scores. Joey Marshall and Mikhail Markine explained though that the conditions of indoor competition and CISM events are more similar than it may seem.

The start of the working time is even easier with the break of the Star (M) in each round, and the first page of sub-terminal conditions is almost completely eliminated, as the teams have five seconds of time until they have to break the Star.

NMP PCH HayaBusa is familiar with the CISM scores beating their own indoor numbers. The 2011 lineup (Dennis Praet, Roy Janssen, David and Andy Grauwels, Danny Jacobs on camera) posted a 36.0 average after the eight CISM rounds of the year, 37.8 after only four rounds in 2013.

Arizona Airspeed goes fully back to FAI/ISC outdoor training after the CISM excursion. The FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 was the first step on the way to winning gold at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022, followed by the second step with the CISM rounds. The third step with the NSL Pre-Nationals Cloud 2022 is probably the most important one, as the same three top contenders will perform under FAI/ISC conditions, little over two months before the outdoor world meet. Airspeed still plan to copy another outdoor competition in Europe before the USPA Nationals as a live event in September.
