Did You Know...

... that Brazil's Netunos followed the Airspeed CISM example?

CISM World Championships awards
posted Jul 8th, 2022 - The 2022 CISM military world championships received more attention this year than ever before, not only due to the fact that CISM winners NMP PCH HayaBusa and silver medalists Qatar Tigers are medal contenders for the FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving in October, as well. In fact, HayaBusa and Tigers are the defending FAI medalists of the 1st and 3rd place at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

The NSL News coverage became even more extensive when Arizona Airspeed joined the CISM competition remotely and for training purposes by performing the same eight CISM sequences in training on their home turf at Skydive Arizona, host of the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022 in October.

It is not unusual at all that teams select competition draws for training purposes that have been used for other events and compare the performances and scores. Airspeed's CISM project went even beyond the usual training purposes when they committed to use a similar time frame and provide the videos of their own eight rounds.

The remote project went even further when InTime and a panel of CISM judges evaluated the Airspeed videos for their own training purposes, and for a more realistic comparison, at least in the judging area.

Brazil - Netunos with the CISM World Championship rounds
Brazil's team at the CISM World Championships
Arizona Airspeed has never been a military team, and there are no plans in this direction at all. The purpose of their CISM excursion was exclusively the opportunity for all involved teams to compare their current performance status, even though the circumstances and meet conditions were very different.

Airspeed's CISM project was inspiring for a team from Brazil. The Netunos, Brazil's military Navy team, were in a similar situation in a different way. They could be eligible for a CISM competition, even though a different lineup competed for Brazil in Austria.

Netunos, with coach Alisson Vargas, who has been training and competing with the Brazilian national indoor and outdoor champions of INIT-Y, have been very busy attending as many meets as possible in 2021 and 2022, including the trip to the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022. Netunos and coach together eventually decided to copy the Airspeed example and took on the eight CISM rounds in one of their recent training camps.

Brazilian Navy team: Netunos
Brazil's CISM team in Austria was a combination of military competitors: Alcy, Diego and Neto of Brazil's Army, Antonio of the Air Force, with Ricardo Rotondo (Navy) on camera. They finished in 7th place of 17 CISM teams in the 4-way Male event.

Coach Alisson Vargas and Navy team Netunos were curious how they would perform the same CISM sequences. Netunos had just won the June meet of Brazil's Tunnel League, which was the first time that a military lineup won a civilian competition in Brazil.

Brazil's CISM team did not make the second cut, and Netunos finished six points ahead after Round 7 (149 - 143) without the official or unofficial CISM judging as Airspeed had it. Netunos could have outscored the CISM team of the Czech Republic, as well, disregarding the judging.

The Netunos will now probably consider their participation at the next CISM championship event. Coach Alisson Vargas has joined the military services, as well, while he still continues with INIT-Y for now. The same INIT-Y lineup who competed at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 will also represent Brazil in Eloy in October, with Birinho on camera.
