Did You Know...

... that Ayro and Falco pushed each other to new team record averages?

AAA Class awards at the Tomscat Trophy live event
posted Jul 11th, 2022 - The annual Tomscat Trophy in the Netherlands usually features Dutch and Belgian 4-way teams on the leaderboard. In fact, four Belgian teams competed at the last Tomscat Trophy before the corona virus crisis in July 2019, including Ayro and Falco.

Falco had also won the Tomscat Trophy in the AA Class competition of 2017, and they moved up to the AAA Class in 2018, still with Andy Pieters in the original lineup, who had launched the team project with the 1st place in the AA Class at the Tomscat Tropht 2017. Paul Hofstee replaced Andy Pieters in 2019 for a year, before he joined the German national 4-way team AtomiX to compete at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 on the event's original date.

Neal Willems, the newest member of NMP PCH HayaBusa, replaced Paul Hofstee for Falco until he was recruited for Belgium's 4-way world champions, and Paul Hofstee came back to Falco when AtomiX did not continue after placing 2nd at the German Outdoor Nationals 2021.

Falco were quickly back to the same scoring and performance level where they were previously with Paul Hofstee in the lineup, first at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2022, followed up now with a new outdoor team record average at the Belgian Tomscat Trophy Cloud.

Ayro - Falco - Full Flow with the Tomscat Trophy draw
Tomscat Trophy Cloud event in Zwartberg
Ayro joined Falco on the way to AAA Class competition just a few months later in the A Class competition of the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2017, where Falco and Ayro attended the same event together for the first time. They followed up by collecting Belgian ranking points at the ESL Championship in September the same year.

They were still separated on the other two 2017 leaderboards, first at at the ISR Grand Prix in November, followed by the Belgian Indoor Nationals in December.

Both Belgian teams enjoyed 4-way training and competition equally, while they still did not meet each other at the beginning of the 2018 season. Ayro's original lineup had moved up to the AA Class in 2018 at the World Challenge in April, while Falco made their own move from AA to AAA at the same event. It was still the same situation at the national outdoor championships in September, the ISR Grand Prix in November and the Belgian Indoor Nationals in December.

Ayro made the final move to AAA, and both teams finally posted their scores on the same leaderboard at the last World Challenge in April 2018. Ayro with their original lineup ended up 36 points behind Falco with Paul Hofstee in Bedford.

Back on the top: Ayro's original lineup of 2017
Ayro still train and compete with their original lineup, and they closed the distance to Falco meet by meet since April 2019. Finally it happened, and Ayro won this duel with Falco for the first time at the Belgian outdoor championships, as the NSL News reported on 21 September 2021.

Falco fought back and won again at the Belgian Indoor Nationals in March this year. Ayro had a better meet at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022, and the 21.9 average would have been enough to stay ahead of Falco at the national indoor championships.

The next and most recent showdown took place when three Belgian teams did not make it to the live event of the Tomscat Trophy 2022 in Moorsele. They decided to work together and create their own additional leaderboard a week later with the same competition draw. This modified format of the original NSL 4-way Network has been used throughout the corona virus crisis and most recently with the CISM competition draw.

Ayro's original lineup of 2017 took back the top spot over Falco, and both teams pushed each other to new team record averages for outdoor competition, Ayro last Saturday at Skydive Flanders in Zwartberg, Falco on Sunday at the skydiving center in Moorsele, host of the Tomscat Trophy's live event. This NSL News update was kindly supported by Ayro's team videographer Gerrit Tielens.
