Did You Know...

... that the Pre-Nationals leaderboard is shaping up?

Question mark: Qatar Tigers at the FAI Tanay Mondial in August 2021
posted Jul 19th, 2022 - The end of this week is featuring the start of the Pre-Nationals 2022, with a live 4-way competition in Texas and the online extension on the NSL leaderboard. As usual at live events and in the NSL 4-way Network, the competition draw will be posted on Friday at the end of the day. Round 1 is scheduled for Saturday morning, which breaks at different times on the planet.

The teams at the live event in Texas complete the ten rounds on the weekend, while the teams at other remote locations across the world have the option to join on the first weekend or use the following week and/or weekend (July 30/31) for their own ten rounds, depending on training plans and availability.

The only difference is the judging panel that Randy Connell manages on the Texas weekend, while InTime continue as soon as the weekend is over and the missing videos are uploaded. The combined leaderboard will be complete on July 31st, while the online judging may take another day or two.

The format is the same that was used for the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020, which was created after the cancellation and rescheduling of the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, based on the format of the NSL 4-way Network in the past 20 years.

It is not only the format that is the same and connects once again the 4-way teams across the planet. Several teams on the 2020 leaderboard are back to use the same opportunity for a final evaluation by FAI judges before national championships and the FAI Outdoor World Meet in October.

The ranking order will be different this year, and the latest NSL Power Rankings are showing what could be expected at the end of the upcoming hybrid competition. The world's three top contenders on the current leaderboard will be at different locations and plan to complete their meet rounds on the first weekend. Their power situation at the moment has only a question mark behind the Qatar Tigers who have not competed since August last year.

It becomes almost more interesting behind the expected medal positions at the world meet in October. XPG4 and Skydive Midwest NEXT will probably compete for the 2nd place behind Arizona Airspeed at the USPA Nationals in September, before XPG4 will follow up with the pursuit of FAI gold medals in 4-way Women a month later.

XPG4 won the duel with NEXT at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022 by five points (246 - 241), which was the last time that they shared a leaderboard. INIT-Y from Brazil will try to keep up with both U.S. teams.

The AA Class leaderboard will feature one of the top contenders for USPA Intermediate Class medals in September. The new Spaceland Toxic lineup made a statement at the season opener of the Texas Skydiving League with the 11.6 average after five rounds at the end of April, as the NSL News reported on May 7th.

The same performance and scoring level after ten rounds at the national championships would almost guarantee a medal position, and Spaceland Toxic had over two months for more training before the upcoming meet weekend in Texas.

The tightest competition can probably be expected between the three AA Class teams behind Spaceland Toxic. The previous scores of Air Raid XP, 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch and Anion Flux XP indicate that they will be close to each other. Spaceland Toxic will probably show their opponents on the AA Class leaderboard where the medal level will be at the USPA Nationals. Two teams use the A Class rounds to prepare for their potentially first appearance at national championships.

Registration for the event is still open until Saturday morning when Round 1 launches the Pre-Nationals 2022.
