posted Jul 25th, 2022 - The NSL News is going back to the coverage of the 8-way competition of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022 while the first scores of the Pre-Nationals 2022 have been posted and before the combined leaderboard will be complete.

The first preview of the event on February 22nd had introduced a record number of six Veloce QRF 8-way lineups, which used to be mostly visitors from France and other European countries for the 8-way project that Martial Ferre has been organizing for several years. The original QRF project turned into the 8-way Hell Weak at Paraclete XP's 16-foot flying chamber, which prepared the participants with very intensive 8-way indoor training for the annual competition at the end of February.

8-way Hell Weak became very popular in the United States, as well, with world-champion player-coaches (Kirk Verner, Brian Krause) sharing their knowledge with the participants. This year, 8-way world champions Jeana Billings, Craig Girard and Matt Davidson offered their additional expertise and guided their own three QRF lineups through the competition.

XP8 members Jeana Billings, Kirk Verner, Brian Krause, Craig Girard and Matt Davidson also competed with their new 8-way lineup and had no opposition at the beginning of their new world meet season, even though the Qatar Falcons visited Paraclete XP for the same event.

QRF 2 - Fusion XP - QRF 3 at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2022

Veloce QRF founder Martial Ferre, former French 8-way world champion, competed with his own signature lineup and ended up in 4th place. He still owns the unofficial 8-way indoor world record (44) that the French national 8-way teams posted at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019, where XP8 had taken the 1st place, with a 43-pointer for the same sequence in the fastest round (M,Q,J,16) of the meet.

The new XP8 lineup came dangerously close to Martial Ferre's world record number, who watched very carefully in Round 2 (H,4,15 - 40), Round 4 (L,N,B,1 - 40) and Round 7 (M,3,Q,D - 42). XP8 finished with a 30.2 average, and Martial Ferre still owns the same record number.

None of the three top teams at this year's 8-way competition had serious opposition, while two QRF lineups battled with Fusion XP for the 5th place. XP8 world champion Brian Krause with QRF 2 and mostly U.S. competitors tied the 5th place with U.S. team Fusion XP, and Jeana Billings' all-female QRF 3 lineup finished only two points behind.

It was the closest competition of the 8-way event, even though two more QRF teams were desperately trying to stay away from the bottom of the leaderboard in their own 3-team battle with another U.S. team (They're Grrr8!). These three teams were separated by three points after Round 10.
