Did You Know...

... that Skydive Midwest NEXT posted a new team record number for a single round?

Only "Emergency Measure": NSL Cloud Mondial 2020
posted Jul 27th, 2022 - The first part of the Pre-Nationals 2022 was completed at Spaceland Houston last weekend, where Chief Judge Randy Connell and his two assistant judges were live at the competition site.

They were still judging additional videos on the same last weekend, which were uploaded from other locations, including Spaceland dropzones in Texas and Skydive Midwest. NEXT completed all eleven rounds on their home turf on the first weekend of the extended time period for the Pre-Nationals 2022.

The "emergency format" that the National Skydiving League created in 2020 to offer an alternative option for the duration of the worldwide corona virus crisis, with all its restrictions and limitations, can probably be dropped by the end of the year, and Formation Skydiving competition could find a way back to bringing teams and competitors together again at live events.

The original format of the NSL Network will still be applied as it has been in the past 25 years, and there will be the same combined leaderboards after weekends and events with synchronized competition draws. The opportunity for teams at event locations far away from each other will be the same as before.

Skydive Midwest NEXT at the Pre-Nationals 2022
Skydive Midwest NEXT on home turf
Skydive Midwest NEXT are now waiting for more scores on the AAA Class leaderboard. The same "emergency format" is supposed to bring more teams together this week, and it may possibly even reach into August, as some of the listed teams have not been able to make the competition rounds so far, partially due to weather conditions, and they have scheduled training camps in early August.

NEXT were already alone on the AAA Class leaderboard of the SDC Cloud Games, and they were the first team once again to post scores and videos for the new competition draw.

The 4-way Open Class medal contender for this year's USPA Nationals took on a challenging set of eleven sequences, which does not allow new record averages easily.

However, the sequence of Round 4 (H,P,9,B) was at least offering one opportunity to post a higher score. Skydive Midwest NEXT used it for a new team record number for a single outdoor round, even though the judges deducted three points from the 35 points in working time. The 32-pointer was still a new team record, and it improved the 31-pointer for an even faster sequence (A,P,N,G,F) in Round 6 of the Cloud Games last month.

Spaceland Toxic at the Pre-Nationals 2022
Toxic Ex Girlfriends at the April meet of the Texas Skydiving League
The AA Class leaderboard features another medal contender, this one for the 4-way Intermediate Class competition at the USPA Nationals, as the NSL News reported on May 7th.

The draw was not any easier than in the AAA Class, and the fast sequence in Round 4 (H,P,9) was also not enough for AA Class teams to finish with team record averages. Spaceland Toxic's 16-pointer at least lifted the average to the team's 11+ level and still confirmed the position of a medal contender for USPA medals.

The only team in Texas with a higher average than at any previous meets were Toxic Ex Girlfriends on the A Class leaderboard, even though they took on a significantly more challenging competition draw. The all-female team actually competed in the RRR Class at the April meet of the Texas Skydiving League.

The format of the Pre-Nationals did not include the RRR Class, which is also not a part of USPA Nationals. Toxic Ex Girlfriends stepped up into the A Class for their first scores in this category, and they improved their RRR Class average significantly.
