posted Aug 4th, 2022 - Brazil's outdoor championships generated new record participation with a total of 17 teams, with eleven of them in the AAA Class competition. There was no surprise on the top of the leaderboard where INIT-Y defended their national championship title successfully without too much trouble.

George Narita in the Tail slot has won the 4-way title annually since 2018, together with Alisson Vargas and Jorge Neto since 2020. The current lineup, with 4th member Ricardo Pereira, won in 2021 and now again. No other 4-way team in Brazil than CTR Optimum/INIT-Y has yet reached the same 16+ level that different CTR Optimum/INIT-Y lineups have consistently posted for many years.

However, and despite defending the 4-way top spot in Brazil successfully once again, INIT-Y still have not accomplished yet the current lineup's early goal to break CTR Optimum's and Brazil's 17.2 outdoor record average of 2012, even though they came close last year (16.3) and now again last week. In fact, the 17.2 team goal was already set before Ricardo Pereira replaced André Ferraz, who still owns the record average.

The most exciting opportunity is still coming up, as INIT-Y will represent Brazil at the FAI Outdoor World Meet in October. The lack of domestic pressure will then change into more than enough competition behind the medal positions and for the Top 10 spots at a world meet. INIT-Y may save their energy for the next approach at the highlight event of the year.

INIT-Y - Netunos - Cometas at Brazil's Outdoor Nationals 2022

The NSL News also reported on June 14th that the situation of lacking domestic pressure in Brazil could change soon. INIT-Y member Alisson Vargas has been coaching Brazil's Navy team Netunos for a while and keeps bringing them closer to the 4-way top level in Brazil.

The next step happened once again at the outdoor championships, where Netunos finished with a new team record average (14.9) while INIT-Y won their next 4-way title with a 16.2 average. There is still not a serious threat yet for Brazil's 4-way champions, however, Netunos keep cutting into the lead meet by meet.

Netunos have now taken the runner-up position in 4-way outdoor competition from Cometas, who owned the 2nd place in 2020 and 2021. They still have the indoor experts of So Pressao in their way of moving up to the same position at the indoor events in Brazil, and So Pressao have no intention of making that any easier for Netunos...
