posted Aug 9th, 2022 - Brazil's Outdoor Nationals 2022 included a separate 4-way Women leaderboard. Brazil is one of the few countries in the world with the separation of the AAA Class teams according to their gender at the national championships.

The eleven AAA Class teams in Brazil competed actually in three different categories. Seven teams were eligible for the country's 4-way Open Class championship, three teams with all-female lineups had their own leaderboard, and Adventure Flyers were a guest team from Paraguay.

Sky Flow were new on any 4-way leaderboards in Brazil, while Cometas Women and UVASDM have competed with and against each other since 2020. That was the year when UVASDM entered the 4-way competition world in the Rookie Class of the country's outdoor championships, according to the NSL News records. Both Cometas lineups, male and female, competed in the AAA Class at that time.

UVASDM then spent almost a whole year in the AA Class at the indoor events of the Brazil Tunnel League and moved up to the AAA Class in November 2021. Cometas lineups don't compete at the indoor meets, and only this year's outdoor championships brought the two 4-way Women teams back together on the same leaderboard.

Cometas Women - UVASDM at the Brazil Outdoor Nationals 2022

The situation at this year's outdoor competition was very different compared to the first time when the two 4-way Women teams competed at the same outdoor championships. UVASDM had progressed from the Rookie Class to the AAA Class with the complete FAI/ISC dive pool, and Brazil's coaching veteran Pedro Ushizima had guided the team to the same performance level that Cometas were on in 2020.

The indoor training accelerated the progression, and the competition experiences that UVASDM collected between November 2020 and June 2022 at the indoor meets prepared the team well for the second outdoor competition with the Cometas.

The combined leaderboard is showing how hard Cometas had to work to fend off the challenge by the UVASDM lineup. The 4-way Women duel ended with a 5-point advantage for Cometas after all ten rounds. The third team on the 4-way Women leaderboard, Sky Flow, did not complete all ten rounds. Brazil's delegation in Formation Skydiving competition will not include a 4-way Women team though. Only the country's indoor and outdoor champions of INIT-Y will compete in 4-way Open at Skydive Arizona.
