Did You Know...

... that the USPA Intermediate Class competition may offer more excitement than expected?

posted Aug 19th, 2022 - The latest scores on the NSL leaderboard came from the August meet of the Midwest Skydiving League, where SDC Rhebellion XP posted their first results of the 2022 season. It has been a very different year for the Midwest team, compared to the 2021 season, when they attended a total of six meets.

It is exactly the same lineup (Aga Horoszko, Kelsey Strock, Eric Bambach, Greg Bush, Amanda Elkin on camera) who are coming back in the same slots as last year. It sounds like a great situation to pursue the goal that the team had set at the beginning of the year. SDC Rhebellion XP were planning to turn the 4th place at the USPA Nationals 2021 into AA/Intermediate Class gold medals next month.

The situation became more complicated when Kelsey Strock was invited by XPG4 to try out for the open slot that the U.S. national team in 4-way Women had to fill when Morgan Womble did not continue. SDC Rhebellion XP had to make alternate plans and potentially recruit a new team member if Kelsey Strock committed to the XPG4 plans.

It was at the end of January when XPG4 announced former Kaos Theory XP member Anna Brunner, and SDC Rhebellion XP followed up a month later. The team gladly welcomed Kelsey Strock back in the lineup and began to make plans for the 2022 season.

The original lineup did not schedule any competition for the 2022 season before the USPA Nationals until the last meet of the Midwest Skydiving League. SDC Rhebellion XP now rely on the meet experiences that they collected with the same lineup at last year's six competitions.

The AA/Intermediate Class rankings of the U.S. teams are showing SDC Rhebellion XP on top of the list of medal contenders who have posted scores this year. The situation is still not as clear as it seems to be, and there could be competition for the medal rankings, even for the gold medals.

Only last year's Intermediate Class winner, Kaos Theory XP, is not eligible for USPA medals in the same category, and the team members have moved on with new teams anyway, Anna Brunner with XPG4, Carl Kallgren and team videographer Charlie Mcgee with SDC Rhythm XP. Jason McClure is pursuing CF/CRW goals this year.

All other AA/Intermediate Class teams at the USPA Nationals 2021 could come back and win USPA medals in the same category, even if they have attended other meets in other categories before registering for the national outdoor championships.

The list of eligible teams includes Dallas Dynasty, who won the silver medals last year, one single point behind Kaos Theory XP.

Dallas Dynasty competed in the AAA/Advanced Class competition of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship and won the U.S. gold medals. However, the same outdoor lineup, with Lucas King for Kyle Hermberg, could be back in the AA/Intermediate Class and win USPA gold medals next month.

There is probably even more competition for SDC Rhebellion XP coming from Texas. Spaceland Toxic are in 2nd place behind SDC Rhebellion XP in the current 2022 rankings. The Toxic 2022 lineup have attended both meets of the Texas Skydiving League and posted 11+ averages.

The Dallas Super Cup is coming up this weekend, and Spaceland Toxic have the potential to match the 12.1 average that SDC Rhebellion XP posted last weekend. The Midwest team has the 12.7 average in the records that forced the Air Force team into a jump-off for the bronze medals last year, and it may take at least the same scoring level to win USPA gold medals this year. Dallas Dynasty won silver with 13.7 a year ago...
