Did You Know...

... that 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch and CSC Constellation had their last test before the USPA Nationals?

Last test before USPA Nationals: 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch
posted Aug 23rd, 2022 - CSC Constellation was one of the busiest U.S. teams in 2021. The original lineup competed at four different A Class events before attending their first national championships in USPA's new 4-way Beginner category. They increased the scoring and performance level at each of the events and ended up in a jump-off extra round for the bronze medals at the USPA Nationals 2021.

The lineup changed when CSC Constellation made plans for the 2022 season. The Midwest team would still be eligible for USPA medals in the A/Beginner Class, however, as most of the other A Class teams they decided to step up to AA/Intermediate Class competition.

Pressly Bonner and Dan Reuber replaced original members Omar Al Atassi and Brad Strock for the first year in the AA Class, and the meet schedule before the next national championships was significantly reduced. CSC Constellation of 2022 participated only in the SDC Cloud Games, which was an online competition at each team's chosen event site without direct opponents and judging.

However, new team member Pressly Bonner has been an indoor and outdoor competitor in Texas with Dallas Distraction and at numerous Indoor Cloud League events for the iFLY Dallas team. His new team decided to add the Dallas Super Cup of the Texas Skydiving League to the 2022 schedule as the last test before the team's next USPA Nationals, this time in the AA/Intermediate Class.

Field trip to Texas: CSC Constellation
There would be AA Class competition for CSC Constellation at the Dallas Super Cup, as 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch have been a regular at Texas Skydiving League meets this year and attended each of the three events.

The Texas team's previous 8.1 average would have been within reach for the Midwest team, according to CSC Constellation's first AA Class scores in June. However, 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch posted a new team record average last weekend, an average point above the previous scores and won the AA Class duel with the highest scores for each round.

CSC Constellation is not the only A Class team that competed in the 4-way Beginner category at the USPA Nationals 2021 and moved up to AA/Intermediate Class competition this year. Florida team Anion Flux XP won the USPA silver medals last year and prepare for ten AA/Intermediate Class rounds at Skydive Chicago next month.

CSC Constellation and Anion Flux XP will have the next re-match at their second national championships, after the first one in the AA Class competition of the SDC Cloud Games. Anion Flux XP was three points ahead after the six rounds at last year's USPA Nationals (54 - 51) and six points after ten rounds in June this year (79 - 73).

CSC Constellation and Anion Flux XP both will meet 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch at the USPA Nationals next month. The Texas team and Anion Flux XP shared the same leaderboard at the Pre-Nationals 2022, which was another online event for the Florida team. That's when 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch posted their 8.1 average, which was matched by Anion Flux XP.

The Texas team added the average point to their performance level last weekend. CSC Constellation and Anion Flux XP both have to copy the progression to stay close and compete for a Top 10 spot or even finish close to the medal level. Only 49 1/2 Finger Death Punch will be new at USPA Nationals.

Kyle Hermberg, Indoor Cloud League manager of the iFLY Dallas team, was also the meet director for the Dallas Super Cup in the absence of Scott Latinis, who was captain at the 100-way Club event at Skydive Chicago last weekend. Kyle Hermberg said that the conditions were perfect, except for a little weather delay in the morning: "The Spaceland team did an awesome job coordinating to make sure we got as many rounds as possible. The teams all cooperated and adjusted to shorter time between loads as needed. Everyone worked together to make the event a success. 49-1/2 Fingers Death Punch and CSC Constellation used the Super Cup as a final training competition before USPA Nationals. All four Rookie Class teams were new and had never jumped together as teams." He added that the Texas teams and competitors also celebrated jump number 3000 for Donaldo Grajeda, who was filming two of the Rookie Class teams.
