Did You Know...

... that France, Great Britain and Italy compete this weekend?

posted Aug 25th, 2022 - The stage is set for an exciting and very interesting meet weekend. The competition draws for the national outdoor championships in France, Great Britain and Italy are posted, and the teams in three of the world's Formation Skydiving powerhouses are prepared for Round 1 on Friday morning.

There are three different sets of competition draws, and scores will only be comparable indirectly and based on the meet averages. The sequences at national championships are usually not synchronized with other events and mostly drawn manually and publicly at the event sites.

The national teams of the respective countries will try to defend their domestic top positions that qualified them for the FAI World Championship in October, and it is the last test before competing on the world's biggest stage, this year at Skydive Arizona in Eloy.

French national coach Mathieu Bernier will be observing both 4-way teams that he selected after the FAI Tanay Mondial for the next few years. The 4-way Open Class team has the same lineup that the NSL News introduced on February 10th, while the 4-way Women lineup has changed.

French 4-way Women with Sophia Pecout (2nd from right)
Gaelle Giesen, Pamela Lissajoux, Jessica Thebault and Elise Poindron, also known as the Nephtys, were assigned to indoor and outdoor training and competition for the French delegation. The lineup for the French national championships this coming weekend is showing Sophia Pecout instead of Pamela Lissajoux.

Sophia Pecout trained and competed with the French 4-way Women outdoor lineup and with the French national 8-way team at the same time.

Her team mates Gaelle Giesen and Christine Malnis did the same double-duties since 2020 and were aiming at two sets of gold medals at the FAI Tanay Mondial.

Pamela Lissajoux trained and competed only in 4-way Women, and national coach Mathieu Bernier took the open slot in the 8-way lineup. The French delegation finished with FAI silver medals in 8-way Open and 4-way Women last August in Russia.

The new French 4-way Women lineup is now a combination of the previous indoor team, the Nephtys (Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault) and the national outdoor team of 2021 (Gaelle Giesen, Sophia Pecout). Matthieu Roux is on camera for Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge.

Not at the national outdoor championships: NFTO
The French 4-way Women team is one of the top contenders for the medals at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022, and Sophia Pecout will surely not weaken the chances for France in this event. She was in the lineups who won gold medals in 4-way Women in Prostejov 2014 and Australia 2018, silver in Ottawa 2016 and Tanay 2021.

The only team that kept France and Sophia Pecout from winning again in 4-way Women in Tanay were the Russian Bubbles, who will not compete at the upcoming world meet. The other top contender in this event were the British 4-way Women team, NFTO, silver medalists in Australia 2018, and there is a question mark behind the NFTO presence in Eloy, as well.

NFTO will not compete at the national championships this weekend, as the team officially announced: "We are heartbroken to announce to our supporters & sponsors that NFTO will not be able to compete at the British National Championships this weekend. One of our team mates is currently not permitted to skydive in the UK at present."

NFTO seem to be sure that this situation will not change their participation at the world meet: "Our journey has not finished and we are continuing to train hard for our goal of the World Championships in October. In the meantime, we want to wish everyone who takes part, a fantastic and exciting competition. Skydive well, score lots of points and have fun."
