Did You Know...

... that the French 4-way Open Class team is far ahead of the Nephtys this year?

AAA Class awards at the French Outdoor Nationals 2022
posted Aug 29th, 2022 - The French national teams completed their one and only outdoor competition before the FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving, after the completion of all ten rounds at the skydiving center in Dijon last weekend. The NSL News reported during the preview of the meet weekend that the French 4-way Women lineup did not have their complete lineup for the national outdoor championships, after Pamela Lissajoux suffered an arm injury that occurred in the previous training camp.

Sophia Pecout, double silver medalist in 4-way Women and 8-way for the French delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial, was available to step in for the Nephtys, and she will continue until Pamela Lissajoux can resume with training for the upcoming world meet.

Last weekend's lineup of the French 4-way Women team was another new combination, after the separation of the national teams for indoor and outdoor events a few years ago. The NSL News had explained the development of the French situation in 4-way Women on April 14th, after national coach Mathieu Bernier had assigned the Nephtys to cover indoor and outdoor training and competition both.

Sophia Pecout, Pamela Lissajoux and Gaelle Giesen had won 4-way Women gold together in Australia 2018, Gaelle Giesen as the official alternate, and they competed together in 4-way Women in Tanay, as well. The current Nephtys lineup (Gaelle Giesen, Pamela Lissajoux, Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault) have not competed together at an outdoor event yet.

It was no surprise after the personnel change in 4-way Women that the new French 4-way Open lineup would finish ahead of the Nephtys. It was still a difference after Round 10 (221 - 188) that Mathieu Bernier had not seen ever since he took the position of the national coach.

It was not only the unexpected and unfortunate change in the 4-way Women lineup that created a larger gap than before. The new and very young 4-way Open lineup has also moved up to world-class scoring levels very quickly. The NSL News mentioned earlier that the current lineup includes Tom Mattoni who still competed in 4-way Junior at the last FAI Indoor World Meet in April 2019.

He continued outdoors with different Aerokart Ak'demie lineups in 2020 and 2021 and outscored NMP PCH HayaBusa at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. Now he has arrived at a 22.1 average after the completion of his team's first outdoor competition.

The French 4-way Women lineups are usually very close to the 4-way Open Class teams, which was still the case until Tanay last year. Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge ended up behind Bubbles, the winner in 4-way Women, and the French 4-way Open Class team only after a weak Round 2. This year, the new French 4-way Open Class lineup had a strong head-start, and it will be very difficult for the Nephtys to catch up. However, the medals in 4-way Women could be more in reach for them, if Bubbles and NFTO will not attend the world meet. The French 4-way Open Class team would have to outscore Arizona Airspeed, NMP PCH HayaBusa and Qatar Tigers to get to the medal level...
