Did You Know...

... that Out Of The Blue has more competition for the Top 10 this year?

AAA Class awards at the Dutch Outdoor Nationals 2022
posted Sep 6th, 2022 - The 4-way teams in the Netherlands were next with their national outdoor championships, after Sweden, Brazil, Denmark, Norway, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Great Britain crowned the outdoor winners of the 2022 season.

There were two surprises, where the defending champions and national teams in 4-way Open did not win again. The CISM team upset Sequenz in Denmark, and the DeLand Norgies outscored Agera FS2022 in Norway. Sequenz and Agera qualified for the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving 2022 last year and are still expected to represent their countries in Eloy.

There was no surprise in the Netherlands, as well, where Out Of The Blue (OOTB) defended their title successfully without much opposition. In fact, OOTB increased the distance to Chaotic Motion VIXX from 17 points (240 - 223) at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 to 22 outdoor points (166 - 144) last weekend.

Both Dutch teams had delivered impressive performances at Airspace Charleroi, as the NSL News reported on May 18th. The Dutch indoor and outdoor champions of OOTB even secured the last Top 10 spot on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard with their 24.0 indoor average.

Out Of The Blue - Chaotic Motion VIXX at the Dutch Outdoor Nationals 2022
Exits from a Cessna Caravan at the national championships
The Top 10 position will probably be the same goal for the outdoor world meet, even though it is expected to be more challenging than it was last year, when OOTB finished in 7th place at the FAI Tanay Mondial. Only nine teams had traveled to Russia for the 4-way Open Class competition, where OOTB posted an 18.0 average after the six completed rounds.

The competition draw for the first six rounds in Tanay was significantly faster than the one for the ten rounds last weekend at the national outdoor championships, where OOTB finished with a 16.6 average. The exits from the Cessna Caravan were an obstacle with an impact on the scores. The Twin Otter as the jump plane for the world meet will make it easier for all teams and their videographers.

However, the easier exits will not decrease the significantly tougher opposition that teams and OOTB can expect at Skydive Arizona in October. The battle for the Top 10 positions could be just as exciting as it was at the indoor world cup in April this year.

The national teams of seven countries who placed in the Top 10 at the indoor world cup will be in Eloy (Arizona Airspeed, NMP PCH HayaBusa, Aerodyne Cypres Lille, HF Flying Circus, Chimera, Papea Masculino, Echochamber). Brazil's INIT-Y and Italy's Amnesya have already posted competitive scores this year, as well.

Out Of The Blue at the FAI Tanay 2020
This year's outdoor world championship will be the third one for Out Of The Blue. The first lineup of 2018 (Mandy Feijen, Mechie Voermans, Ralf Pijnenburg, Rick Verbunt, Bart Daenen on camera) finished in 15th place (15.3) in Australia 2018 before the current lineup (Mandy Feijen, Mechie Voermans, Ralf Pijnenburg, Bart Daenen, Leon van Leeuwen on camera) jumped up to the 7th place in Tanay.

There were more teams in Australia 2018 who will also claim Top 10 positions in October. The Qatar Tigers are one of the top contenders for FAI medals and are not even looking at the Top 10 spots. The Swiss Airheads placed 7th in Australia, while Switzerland does not seem to have a team for the Top 10 this year, and there is another question mark behind Canada's Evolution.

However, Germany's Airbus 4-way lineup took the last Top 10 spot in Australia, and the new lineup is just finishing up their national outdoor championships with an 18.4 average before Round 10, which will be competitive again in the same area on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard.

Russia will not be able to compete for medals or Top 10 positions, which might be the only missing contender in Eloy. Out Of The Blue will probably need their best performance level to get to the Top 10 in a very competitive field.
