posted Sep 7th, 2022 - The aftermath of the Dutch Outdoor Nationals 2022 continues with a closer look at two teams who have not been in the spotlight yet, at and after meets they attended. Joulz ended up at the bottom of the Dutch AAA Class leaderboard, while Spare Rib Masters had no opposition in the AA Class and won the national title.

They missed each other on the same leaderboard, even though Spare Rib Masters moved up from A Class competition at their only previous meet to AA at last week's national outdoor championships. The team's first competition was the 8-round indoor event at the ISR Grand Prix 2019.

Joulz and Spare Rib Masters had missed each other already at the indoor competition. The 4-way Women team Joulz started in the AA Class of the Tomscat Trophy 2019, less than half a year before Spare Rib Masters competed for the first time in Roosendaal and signed up for the A Class competition.

Both teams sat out the complete 2020 season, when the corona virus crisis interfered heavily with any Formation Skydiving training and competition, and Joulz were back for the national outdoor championships last year. Spare Rib Masters waited for another year and now had their comeback in the AA Class.

Joulz - Spare Rib Masters at the Dutch Outdoor Nationals 2022

Joulz were still competing in the AA Class at this year's Tomscat Trophy, and it seemed like there would be a AA Class competition at the national outdoor championships. However, Joulz had decided to make their own move up and registered for the team's first AAA Class experience.

They matched their AA Class average of 2021 exactly (7.2) in the AAA Class, after mastering five of the six slot-switching new blocks. There were still two rounds (1 and 6) where the AAA sequences were identical with the AA Class draw, and the two Dutch teams could compare their scores directly on the two different leaderboards.

Spare Rib Masters matched the Joulz pace and lost this 2-round duel only after a point deduction in Round 5. Meet organizer Rogier Carper reported from the Paracentrum Teuge that Joulz could take home "a beautiful gold medal for the ladies category".

He added credit for the Joulz performance: "Gold is fun, but especially the good atmosphere, solid organization and challenging sequences at their first AAA Class meet made it a very nice competition. Thanks also to coach Jaap Keuter who gave Joulz the confidence to dare to participate at this level. We really enjoyed it!"

Rogier Carper had more exciting updates from the Netherlands. He said that the "Tom Verschoor Bokaal", a special trophy for the most talented skydivers, was awarded to Sofia van der Vlist this year.

Candidates have to be under the age of 30, compete at international events and provide coaching and advice for other teams and competitors. Sofia van der Vlist is an original member of Chaotic Motion who launched their 4-way team at the Tomscat Trophy 2019. She was a member of the Red lineup when Dutch skydivers initiated the "Project Dutch FS4 20 Plus" in 2017. Out Of The Blue originated at this project, as well.

Sofia van der Vlist's team mate Rick Verbunt joined Team Red later in 2018, together with Danny Dorfel and Fanny Hopmans on camera. All together they eventually started their own team, Chaotic Motion. Rick Verbunt received the Tom Verschoor Bokaal in 2018, and he forwarded the trophy to his current team mate and successor, Sofia van der Vlist.

The same ceremony was not done after this award, as Rick Verbunt had more and very different things in his mind. He knelt down after presenting the trophy and proposed for Sofia van der Vlist's hand in marriage. The team bonds reached obviously farther than only to 4-way training and competition...
