Did You Know...

... that the SDC Rhebellion XP story had a happy ending?

posted Sep 14th, 2022 - SDC Rhebellion XP caught the attention of the NSL News the first time during a Rhythm indoor training camp at Paraclete XP. The story on 1 February 2021 introduced the three team members who were present at the time of the interview (Aga Horoszko, Kelsey Strock, Greg Bush). Eric Bambach was not available for the January camp at Paraclete XP.

The complete lineup then attended their first 4-way competition a month later, the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021, and they finished in 4th place. Team members participated at a few more Indoor Cloud League events of the ICL Midwest team before switching to outdoor training. The Indoor Cloud League events were one of the places where SDC Rhebellion XP members connected with each other originally.

The complete lineup posted a 12.1 average after eight rounds at the July meet of the Midwest Skydiving League 2021, which made them a top contender for USPA medals in the AA/Intermediate Class, as the NSL News reported on 21 July 2021. SDC Rhebellion XP followed up at two more meets of the Midwest Skydiving League, with 11.8 in August and 12.0 in September.

Then it was time for the first appearance at the USPA Nationals 2021 at Skydive Arizona in October, and Rhebellion finished with a new team record average (12.7) in Eloy. However, the same teams who took gold and silver medals at the Paraclete XP indoor event in February were also back and in the same positions, and a new Air Force lineup forced SDC Rhebellion into an extra round for bronze medals with the advantage for Air Force Atlas. The NSL News reported the details of this dramatic finish on 17 November 2021.

SDC Rhebellion XP were looking back at a very successful and progressive first year in 4-way competition. The NSL News pointed out on May 13th that the Midwest team was in fact the busiest competition team in the United States last year.

However, the original lineup delayed making plans for the 2022 season, as team members had to evaluate other opportunities. Kelsey Strock was eventually a candidate for the open slot of the new XPG4 lineup. Eventually, She passed on the slot opportunity, and SDC Rhebellion XP decided to continue for another year with the original lineup.

They had already missed the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship of 2022 and attended only the August meet of the Midwest Skydiving League this year in preparation for the second attempt to pursue USPA medals in the AA/Intermediate Class.

The 12.1 average this August matched the one at the MWSL July meet last year exactly, and the question was whether this scoring level would be enough for USPA medals in the 4-way Intermediate Class last weekend at Skydive Chicago.

Three SDC Rhebellion XP members supported the comeback of the ICL Midwest team in August and had Skydive Midwest NEXT member Gorka Amian in their lineup for the AAA/AA sequences, after the 12.1 outdoor average the same month, and after the indoor and outdoor opponents from Texas had challenged them in July.

The NSL News posted a preview of the 4-way Intermediate Class competition at the USPA Nationals 2022 on August 19th, and SDC Rhebellion XP were still the top contenders for the USPA gold medals, even after only 50 training jumps this year. However, there were new question marks behind the field of teams in this category.

The same lineup peaked again at the right time and posted their highest average at the national championships, one single point higher than last year. It was enough to win last weekend, even though Cinnamon Roll Fight Club in 2nd place were also back with exactly the same lineup as in 2021, and with a significantly increased scoring and performance level.

The USPA gold medals are a happy ending of a great team story. The team members have different plans for the future, even though they have enjoyed their time together very much. The NSL News will surely follow the path of the 4-way Intermediate Class gold medalists of 2022.
