posted Sep 17th, 2022 - The 8-way competition at the German Outdoor Nationals was not completed this year. The six participating teams were stopped by bad weather after Round 8. It was the only outdoor competition that the German national Airbus team attended since last year's national championships, and before they may compete for bronze medals at the FAI Outdoor World Meet next month in Eloy.

The 10-round averages that the Airbus 8-way lineups have finished with in the last decade have been in the range where the bronze medal scores are expected to be, and that could allow a new team to step up onto the FAI 8-way podium.

Great Britain's national 8-way team MicroClim8 has the same opportunity, as France will be represented by Mojo Pamiers on a similar performance and scoring level this year.

Airbus finished with a 12.8 average after the eight rounds at the national championships, which is not the scoring level where the team is expected at the world meet. Similar Airbus lineups have been posting meet averages close to the 14-point benchmark since 2019, and several team members are even familiar with 14+ averages.

Three of them (Olaf Biedermann, Goeran Meyer, Max Thiele) were in the Airbus lineup that has the German 10-round record average in their books, after the 14.8 at the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012. In fact, Max Thiele's brother Joern competed in Dubai, as well, and he helped out this month when his brother Max was not available for the German nationals.

Airbus Oceanside Illertissen at the German Outdoor Nationals 2022

Airbus Oceanside Illertissen was also missing their team videographer Erik Lorenz, who will be back in his slot at the upcoming world meet. Antje Grube was filming Airbus to the new set of national 8-way gold medals this year. Airbus also needed a third substitute, as team member and national record holder Olaf Biedermann missed the meet, as well.

This situation brought former 8-way team member Alex Prendinger back into the Airbus 8-way lineup for the eight rounds in Neustadt, Germany. He trained and competed with Airbus 8 between 2018 and 2021, with Airbus double duties in 4-way and 8-way between 2019 and 2021. He stepped back from 8-way when the new Airbus 4-way lineup decided to focus only on their prime event.

His former 4-way team mate with Eyjafjallajökull, Linda Koeb, had joined the Airbus 8-way team with the complete lineup (Carl Enders, Stefan Knoch, Linda Koeb, Alexander Prendinger), and they were all back together to won the German 8-way title this year.

Alexander Prendinger will make room again for Olaf Biedermann and compete for Germany only in 4-way next month, after winning his 4th set of German 8-way medals and the 2nd one in 4-way. Linda Koeb placed 2nd in 4-way Open with her 4-way Women team Meltemi, and she will take on the double duties in Eloy.
