Did You Know...

... that five more Belgian teams also used the USPA competition draw?

AAA Class awards at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2022
posted Sep 19th, 2022 - The NSL News reported on September 10th that Arizona Airspeed and Qatar Tigers would have a Belgian opponent, as well. The host of the national championships in Belgium had decided to copy the competition draw of the USPA Nationals, and the combined leaderboard would show all teams that performed the ten AAA sequences.

The update was posted after the first four rounds in Belgium were completed, while the U.S. 4-way teams were already done with their ten rounds on Saturday. All Belgian teams would be back on Sunday to add the scores for the remaining six rounds to the leaderboards.

The combined leaderboard with the scores of the three national teams in 4-way Open for the upcoming FAI Outdoor World Meet, Arizona Airspeed, NMP PCH HayaBusa, Qatar Tigers, was posted a few days later for a special world meet update.

It was not only NMP PCH HayaBusa in Belgium, who could use the same sequences of the competition at Skydive Chicago and compare their scores with the U.S. teams. The other five AAA Class teams in Belgium were able to do the same. In fact, there were three different leaderboards that could be merged when the competition draws were synchronized, as the USPA Advanced Class teams are also performing the same AAA Class sequences in their category.

Team record average: Ayro at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2022
The combined leaderboard is showing a very interesting placement of the Belgian teams. NMP PCH HayaBusa had a good start into the meet and won the 2nd place over the Qatar Tigers in the first two rounds. They tied each other with the total of Rounds 3 - 10, which may promise even more the expected battle for the FAI silver medals in Eloy next month.

Ayro and Falco had their next version of the usual duel that they have been in since 2017, the year when both teams were formed. Ayro has defended the upper hand in outdoor competition since 2021, even though both teams have never been separated by more than nine points in this time period.

They were once again so close to each other that only Lightspeed XP could separate the two Belgian teams on the Open Class and the combined leaderboards. Ayro and Falco both finished with new team record averages, for the first time at the 16+ level.

The meet averages of the best three teams at Belgium's national outdoor championships would be high enough to make the Top 10 in 4-way Open at the USPA Nationals, where Qatar Tigers and Qatar Cheetahs competed as guest teams.

Ayro - Falco at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2022
Team record average: Falco at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2022
It was even closer between the other two AAA Class teams in Belgium, Phoenix and Full Flow. Only two points separated them from each other, which was so close that no U.S. team placed between the two other Belgian AAA Class teams.

The meet averages, which were also record numbers for both teams, would have placed Phoenix and Full Flow in 7th place on the 4-way Advanced Class leaderboard of the 15 teams at the USPA Nationals.

The three different leaderboards (4-way Open, 4-way Advanced, Belgium AAA) combined for a total of 33 teams, including two 4-way Women teams (XPG4, SNE Fly Girls) who represented four countries (United States, Belgium, Qatar, Guatemala) at two different locations. Four of the 33 teams will meet each other again next month in Eloy.

Ayro followed up on the national outdoor championships a week later at the ESL Championship, where they won the AAA Class competition and confirmed the 16+ scoring level with a 16.4 average. The NSL News will follow up with more details and competition videos from this event, as well.
