Growing 4-way interest in Colorado: ICL August team
posted Oct 9th, 2022 - The NSL News reported on September 28th that there is a strong 4-way momentum in Colorado. The statement came in the aftermath of the Colorado Skydiving League Championship, where seven teams followed the invitation by Emily Bombardi and Eric Daniel shortly after the completion of the USPA Nationals 2022.

Emily Bombardi and Eric Daniel had noticed the growing interest in 4-way competition in their region at the Indoor Cloud League activities that they launched earlier this year, as the NSL News had also reported on May 28th.

The updates from Colorado mentioned that 4-way teams of the Air Force Academy were planning to be more present at regional events and also participate in the Indoor Cloud League. Emily Bombardi and Eric Daniel said that up to five Air Force teams were interested in scoring for the iFLY Colorado Springs team and challenge each other for the Indoor Cloud League highscores in the coming months. A total of six Air Force teams then competed in 4-way Advanced and 4-way Intermediate at the USPA Nationals and joined the civilian U.S. teams on all areas of the leaderboards.

Four of the same six Air Force teams who competed at Skydive Chicago, Night Fury and Zorro in 4-way Advanced, Tall Boys and Artemis in 4-way Intermediate, followed up at the Indoor Cloud League event at iFLY Colorado Springs, and AF Night Fury contributed to the September total with their 22-pointer.

AF Night Fury and AF Zorro competed with Emily Bombardi's and Eric Daniel's AAA/AA lineup for the highscores in the two ICL categories. Amanda Lampton was back with them, and Air Force 9-Ball member Jarrod Aranda completed the lineup.

AF 9-Ball and AF Night Fury had already battled with each other at the USPA Nationals where they ended up right next to each other on the AAA/Advanced Class leaderboard at the end of their 10-round duel. Jarrod Aranda posted the highest September score with his mixed lineup, and AF Night Fury won the AA sequence. Both teams were separated by one point for the total of the AAA/AA combination.

AF Zorro tied AF Night Fury in AAA and Emily Bombardi's and Eric Daniel's lineup for the AA sequence. AF 9-Ball, AF Night Fury, AF Zorro and This is our Season already had their earlier internal Colorado challenge on the Advanced Class leaderboard of the USPA Nationals, where they finished in a different order.

Best placement of Air Force delegation: AF Tall Boys

Only Jarrod Aranda of the 9-Ball lineup was back at the Indoor Cloud League event. The 9-Ball lineup at the USPA Nationals was the same one that had finished with a 10.4 average at the USPA Nationals 2021. This year's 13.3 average was only ten points behind the USPA medal rankings in the AAA/Advanced Class, after the 10th place last year.

Emily Bombardi and Eric Daniel had finished behind AF 9-Ball and AF Night Fury both at Skydive Chicago. Steven Thoene and former Arizona Airspeed member Ari Perelman completed their lineup, with Amanda Echevarria on camera. Their AAA/AA lineup with Amanda Lampton and Jarrod Aranda then won the internal AAA/AA challenge at iFLY Colorado Springs.

The situation was similar between the two Air Force teams who had competed in the AA/Intermediate Class at the USPA Nationals. Each of them won one September sequence in their internal duel, AF Artemis in the AA Class, AF Tall Boys in the A Class.

AF Tall Boys had finished in 4th place on the Intermediate Class leaderboard at Skydive Chicago, the best placement for the Air Force delegation this year. The internal Indoor Cloud League duel between Tall Boys and Artemis ended up with a 1-point difference at iFLY Colorado Springs.
