posted Oct 20th, 2022 - Opening ceremony and competition draw have taken place, and competition reality begins tomorrow morning with Round 1 in 4-way VFS, 4-way Women and 4-way Open. The 8-way teams will come to the dropzone at noon, and meet director Randy Connell plans to complete up to four rounds in 4-way if possible.

He created a very interesting jump order out of the situation that he was facing with 21 teams in 4-way Open. Starting the day with 4-way VFS, followed by 4-way Women, did not allow him to have the Top 4 teams of the FAI Tanay Mondial in the same load. However, at least NMP PCH HayaBusa will not be alone in the last load of the 4-way competition. In fact, Arizona Airspeed and the Belgian 4-way world champions start into the competition together, and they may continue throughout all ten rounds, as well.

That's not new to both teams. They jumped from the same Twin Otter with the same lineups ten times at the Shamrock Showdown 2022. 50 points separated them after the ten rounds at Skydive City. NMP PCH HayaBusa reduced the difference to 31 points when they copied the competition draw of the USPA Nationals 2022 at the Belgian Outdoor Nationals 2022, as the NSL News reported on September 10th.

Both teams jumped from different planes at their national championships, Airspeed from Twin Otter, Hayabusa from Cessna Caravan. Tomorrow, both teams will exit from the same jump plane again, Airspeed first, Hayabusa last, at least for the competition rounds of the first day.

There was still enough time on the last day before Round 1 and before opening ceremony and competition draw to meet the newest national team at a FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving. Emily Bombardi and Eric Daniel had brought La Playa from Guatemala to the attention of the NSL News before the team traveled to Arizona.

It was not the first visit for the team in Eloy, as they had spent training camps at the same place before. La Playa also competed at the USPA Nationals 2022 not too long ago, and they went back to Guatemala to win the national championships and return to the United States soon again.

La Playa did not know for sure whether they would compete at the outdoor world meet or not. Guatemala's skydiving federation had registered a team without knowing exactly who would compete in Eloy, as this year's national championships would be the qualifier. There was domestic competition for La Playa, and they won just a few weeks before the world meet.

The 21st team at this year's event was officially added to the list of 4-way Open Class teams when the participation was confirmed by the president of the federation, who is also a La Playa team member at the same time. They used indoor and outdoor training in Eloy to prepare as good as possible for their first world championship. Welcome La Playa, welcome Guatemala to the FAI 4-way world.
