Did You Know...

... that NFTO took the 4-way Women lead without any penalties?

Competition Day 1 on Friday morning
posted Oct 21st, 2022 - The jump order that meet director Randy Connell came up with at the briefing and competition draw on Thursday evening turned out to fit well for the total number of teams in Formation Skydiving competition at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022, including the five 4-way VFS teams.

Four VFS teams boarded the first load at 7.00 am in the morning, and the fifth team in this event was a part of the next load for the first round in 4-way Women. The fourth team in this category then joined the first load in 4-way Open, and NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed finally ended up together alone in the last Twin Otter of Round 1.

The NSL News was filming all 4-way teams in the loading area on their way to Round 1 and then followed NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed all the way to the actual boarding area near the runway. Eliana Rodriguez was following the 4-way action in the morning and had a few comments at the beginning of the day.

She is the official alternate for the U.S. 8-way team, Paraclete XP8, who will begin with their preparations for the afternoon action. XP8 member Kirk Verner was following the 4-way Women competition carefully, as well, where XPG4 could complete a U.S. Sweep in Formation Skydiving.

NFTO exit training on Friday morning
The scores for Round 1 confirmed how close the competition in 4-way Women could be. The three top contenders all completed 18 points within working time, and before the judges deducted one point from the XPG4 total, two points from the French account.

Top favorite NFTO, with coach Andy Grauwels present, took the lead right away, and the British team has not lost a point in the judging room yet. They followed up with highscores in Round 2 and Round 3 and are on the way to win their first FAI gold medals.

Only the German team Meltemi matches the penalty-free NFTO performance that former NMP PCH HayaBusa member and 4-way world champion of 2014, 2016 and 2018 Andy Grauwels has been overseeing throughout the 500 training jumps that NFTO made this year. All 21 teams in 4-way Open have already point deductions on their scoresheets.

XPG4 and Meltemi share the Twin Otter load with NFTO, while the Nephtys are completing each round in 4-way Women in the first 4-way Open Class load. This order could change at the end of the day, and NFTO will probably join the first 4-way Open Class load.
