... that Airbus 8 added three more points to the bronze-medal lead in Round 4?

Airbus 8 with jump preparations in Eloy
posted Oct 22nd, 2022 - Saturday began with 8-way competition at the FAI Outdoor World Meet. Meet director Randy Connell will try to add four more rounds to the first three on Friday, before a weather system may interfere with the schedule temporarily.

Round 4 continued with the progression on the leaderboard, as it had been happening on Friday, the first day of the competition. Paraclete XP extended the lead to a total of 15 points, while the Qatars Falcons added four more points to the lead over Airbus 8.

The German 8-way team won another round over the other two bronze medal contenders, MicroClim8 and Mojo Annecy-Clermont. Airbus 8 has won all four rounds so far and seems to be on the way to the first FAI medals for Germany since 1985, as the NSL News reported after the completion of the first three rounds on Friday.

The 8-way competition offered a much quieter environment in the morning, as there are only five teams in this event. The NSL News took the time to take a closer look at the German 8-way team who seem to make history this week in Eloy.

NSL-TV Unfiltered: German 8-way team Airbus after Round 4
Meltemi with jump preparations in Eloy
Team captain Thomas "Spieli" Spielvogel was recently introduced with a new NSL Profile, and the related update offered additional information about his skydiving career on his 60th birthday.

Airbus 8 and Meltemi member Linda Koeb was also mentioned several times in the recent previews and updates from Eloy, as she is one of the three female competitors who are taking on 4-way and 8-way double-duties.

The NSL News found Airbus 8 in the middle of their preparations for Round 5, with new coach Dan BC and team videographer Erik Lorenz. The ground work was briefly interrupted when MictoClim8 appeared on the judging screen with their Round 4, which turned out to increase the Airbus lead by three more points. Then the preparations continued with more dirtdives and the debriefing of their own Round 4.

The 12-point lead over MicroClim8, together with the 14.8 average, is very promising and may set an additional goal for the team. Three current team members (Olaf Biedermann, Goran Meyer, Max Thiele) were in the lineup that posted the highest German 8-way average at the FAI Dubai Mondial 2012, together with Airbus 4-way member Thomas Mack. The current lineup is showing the potential to set a new record.
