HF Flying Circus at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022

posted Oct 31st, 2022 - The FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving is by far the most relevant competition for any 4-way and 8-way teams, competitors and the audience. It is still only one team in each event that represents a country and cannot be at any other location at the time of the world meet.

4-way and 8-way training and other activities come almost to a standstill across the Formation Skydiving world at the time of the world meet. Teams, competitors and audience pay at least a lot of attention to the event while they continue to do what they do.

The Indoor Cloud League events are a part of the 4-way world, while they are probably as far away from an outdoor world meet as it can be, even though many of the player-coaches at the ICL events are top competitors and members of national teams, who help regularly to introduce new participants or with coaching.

The Indoor Cloud League month of September generated a very promising leaderboard, even though some of the same top competitors were in the middle of the final preparations for the outdoor world meet. September was the first month this year when all five currently participating ICL teams posted complete sets of scores and videos for the six sequences. Pandemic, the political situation, and the impact on the costs and logistics had made it increasingly difficult for windtunnel operators, organizers and participants to sign up for the events.

XPG4 at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2022

The NSL News mentioned on October 7th that the Czech national team in 4-way Open, HF Flying Circus, would attend their first outdoor world meet, and they eventually did so in Eloy. They had still posted the scores and videos for the AAA and AA sequences on the Hurricane Factory leaderboard in September and before they traveled to Skydive Arizona.

The whole XPG4 lineup, bronze medal winners at the outdoor world meet, have been organizing the Indoor Cloud League events at Paraclete XP the whole year, and they also presented a complete set of ICL scores and videos for September during their final preparations.

Jeana Billings and Michelle Karamon have been training in 8-way, as well, and they became the only competitors at the outdoor world meet who collected medals in two events, gold in 8-way, bronze in 4-way Women.

September became also the first month where all five participating ICL teams posted total numbers above 100 points. Three teams had accomplished the same in April. iFLY Colorado Springs passed the 100-point benchmark for the first time in September. iFLY Dallas matched their own July total of 122 points and maintained the lead on the annual leaderboard, while passing the total of 1000 ICL points for 2022.
