Did You Know...

... that Echochamber won the national indoor championships with the original 2016 lineup?

Original Echochamber lineup in 2016
posted Nov 28th, 2022 - The next national team that competed at the FAI Outdoor World Meet last month and then made a quick transition to indoor competition was Echochamber Oceanside from Sweden. The country's national indoor championships took place less than a month after Round 10 in Eloy.

Echochamber had to make a few adjustments in the lineup, as Ann-Marie Jarzebowski was heading back to Australia after the outdoor world meet, and Mattias Nord had planned a trip to France. Result of the situation before the national indoor championship was a reunion of the original Echochamber lineup of 2016.

Martin Backlin and Johan Edvall both trained and competed with the team indoors and outdoors in 2016 and 2017. The original lineup won the Swedish outdoor championship title for the first time in 2017 and qualified for the next outdoor world championship in Australia 2018.

Martin Backlin then stepped back after the FAI European Indoor Championship 2018 when his work situation did not allow him to train enough with the team for the outdoor world championship. Echochamber's coach Mattias Nord took the outdoor slot, and Echochamber finished in 5th place with an impressive 21.5 average in Australia 2018.

Martin Backlin was back in his slot for the next indoor winter season, and Echochamber finished in 7th place and a 27.4 average in a very strong field at the FAI Indoor World Championship in Lille 2019. The 28.3 indoor average in Norway and the 21.5 outdoor average in Australia are still Echochamber's team record numbers.

The next change in the lineup came at the end of the 2021 season. Echochamber eventually withdrew from the participation at the FAI Tanay Mondial in August 2021 when original member Johan Edvall had a back injury, and Swedish substitute Ann-Marie Jarzebowski was not eligible after competing for Australia in 2018.

Ann-Marie Jarzebowski competed with Echochamber at the national outdoor championship the same year before Johan Edvall was back for the indoor event in October.

However, he still had not recovered from the injury quickly and well enough for outdoor training and competition, and Echochamber eventually decided to invite Ann-Marie Jarzebowski to take the full slot. She spent the complete 2022 season with the Swedish national team in 4-way Open, including the FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi and the FAI Outdoor World Championship in Eloy.

Original Echochamber lineup in 2022
Original members Ulf Liljenbäck and Rikard Rodensjö did not hesitate for too long when they had to replace Ann-Marie Jarzebowski and Mattias Nord for the national indoor championship this month. Martin Backlin came back after more than three years of hibernation, and Johan Edvall was ready to return to indoor training and competition a year after his previous comeback attempt.

Ulf Liljenbäck and Rikard Rodensjö expected their former team mates to be ready for 4-way action, as Ulf Liljenbäck put it: "It's like riding a bike, there is no way you can forget how to. If you are a world-class flier, you can just watch your team mate say "ready, set, go" jump into the air and then rock it."

The original Echochamber lineup had a ball at their first complete reunion: "We scored a million points and then a million more having so much fun."

The next international FAI competition is the indoor world championship in Slovakia in April 2023. It seems like Echochamber is now facing one of the best problems that a team can have. The four original members might be available for more training and competition, as well as the two most current team members, Ann-Marie Jarzebowski and Mattias Nord. There will probably be more news from Sweden very soon...
