Did You Know...

... that the Weembinamic 2022 featured an expected Super Sequence in Round 10?

French national 4-way Open Class team in Eloy
posted Dec 6th, 2022 - The NSL News covered earlier how some of the national 4-way teams who competed for their countries at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 switched quickly to indoor competition just a few weeks after the last outdoor meet of the year (HF Flying Circus, Flyspot Sky4Four, Out Of The Blue, Echochamber).

The members of the French national teams transitioned to indoor competition on the same weekend as Sweden's national 4-way team, even though they were not on duty for their national teams. They volunteered to compete at the annual Weembinamic in Lille, where their joined forces with other lineups.

4-way members Mathieu Quizy (Unicorns - Les Inconnus) and Tom Mattoni (La DH Monégasque - Monaco Mike Air) competed with two different teams each, Tom Mattoni with his father Stephane in both lineups, brother Noe in one of them. 4-way and 8-way member Alban Rumolo was in the same father-son lineup (Monaco Mike Air) with his own father Mickael Rumolo.

4-way Women team mates Pamela Lissajoux and Elise Poindron had former French 4-way Open competitor Charles Rommel and former 4-way and 8-way world champion Martial Ferre in their lineup (Les Chat-toyants).

Host Julien Degen, former French 4-way and 8-way world champion, topped the double-duties of several participants on the same leaderboard, which is allowed and encouraged at the Weembinamic. He competed with four different teams at the Weembinamic and completed 40 meet rounds on the Weembinamic weekend.

In fact, he had to move up and down the podium at the award ceremony, as two of his four teams (Unicorns - FCUK) placed 1st and 2nd in 4-way AAA/Open. Julien Degen almost finished in all three teams on the podium, as his third team, 4G Weembi, finished only shortly behind in 4th place.

4G Weembi is ranked in 7th place on the traditional leaderboard. However, the Weembinamic format pitches the teams in elimination duels against each other after the first three rounds.

4G Weembi lost in the semifinals against Unicorns and competed with Nice Odin for the 3rd place. They won the first of the two rounds (9 and 10) by three points (24 - 21) and then suffered 12 point deductions in the fast Round 10 (44 - 59).

Only Julien Degen's fourth team (Vedett Weembi) was neither on the top of the traditional leaderboard nor near the Weembinamic medal positions.

The situation was similar on the top of the traditional leaderboard. Julien Degen's Unicorns outscored his other team, FCUK, in seven of the ten rounds and were nine points ahead, considering the total number of points after Round 10 (292 - 283).

Unicorns and FCUK were facing each other in the finals (Rounds 9 and 10), and Unicorns won the first round of this gold-medal duel by one point (23 - 22). Then came the Super Sequence of Round 10, which offered every team the opportunity to change the outcome of the situation after all previous rounds. Unicorns lost the Super Sequence round only by three points, which was still enough to lose the 1st place to FCUK.

Julien Degen had introduced the Super Sequence in Round 10 (P,M,J,E,F) this year and announced it well ahead of the competition. All teams had the opportunity to practice the sequence as much as they wanted to before Round 1 at the Weembinamic.

British team Apex were actually best prepared for the Super Sequence and posted the highscore for Round 10 (70). They moved up the traditional leaderboard and won their British duel with SpongeBob by eight points, while they could not get any closer to the medal positions with the record number for the Super Sequence. Nice Odin won the bronze medals - without Julien Degen in the lineup...
