Did You Know...

... that the Roosendaal AAA leaderboard will split into three different ones in Slovakia?

24+ average in 2018: Bad Boys
posted Dec 21st, 2022 - The NSL News featured the current status of the qualification race between the Czech 4-way Junior teams HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons on December 18th. The videos of the latest duel at the December meet of the Czech Tunnel League are now available for reviews.

With both teams competing in the AAA Class before the eight rounds in AA/4-way Junior at the FAI Indoor World Championship, they are also meeting the best AAA Class teams on the leaderboards at the meets that they attend. In the Czech Republic, they are usually facing the two current national teams, HF Flying Circus in 4-way Open, HF Cubs in 4-way Women.

Both national senior teams have to keep an eye on the juniors while they try to push each other to higher performance and scoring levels. HF Flying Circus needed a substitute this month, when Jakub Klapka was not able to compete with his team. The unexpected change in the lineup was showing how close the junior teams are. HF Flying Circus with substitute Vaclav Prokes were barely able to fend off HF Flying Rebels.

Vaclav Prokes was familiar with up to a 24+ average with his former team, the Bad Boys, and the lack of training with HF Flying Circus did not allow the team to keep up with the HF Cubs this time.

The qualification battle between the two junior teams takes place in front of international fields and audiences, too. Jan Klapka takes them regularly to other events in Europe where they can become familiar with the international atmosphere. HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons both have already visited Poland and the Netherlands this year, after the FAI Indoor World Cup in Belgium.

They met several AAA Class teams from other European countries at the ISR Grand Prix last month, including four Italian teams who they shared the AAA Class leaderboard with at the Flyspot Open 2022 in Poland, as well.

One of the Italian teams at the Flyspot Open followed the same travel pattern as the two Czech junior teams. The NSL News mentioned on December 5th that Fire Phoenix is qualified as Italy's national team in 4-way Women for the indoor world championship in Slovakia.

Fire Phoenix followed up on the team's first competition in Poland with the trip to Roosendaal, where they posted their second set of AAA Class scores, together with two other 4-way Open Class teams from Italy. The new Italian national indoor team in 4-way Women have very experienced leadership. Antonella Chiarin was a member of Italy's national team in 4-way Open, the Spin Team, at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Maubeuge 2008, and she is now guiding Fire Phoenix to their first indoor world championship.

Antonella Chiarin is in fact one of the most successful and experienced 4-way competitors in Italy. She has won four national championship titles, three times with the Dream Team in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Then she competed for Italy in 4-way Open in Australia 1999. She also spent two years with eX3MO's 4-way lineup and competed for Italy again at the world championship in Prostejov 2014.

Her new 4-way Women team needs the guidance into international 4-way competition. Her team mate Lucia Fattori started with indoor and outdoor training in May this year and has a total of little over 50 jumps by now, plus indoor training, of course.

Fire Phoenix will compete for Italy in Slovakia next April, where they will meet several teams who competed in Poland and the Netherlands, as well. However, they have not met another 4-way Women team on the same leaderboard yet.

This will probably happen in January when Fire Phoenix compete at the Hurricane Factory in Prague, and at least the HF Cubs will most likely join them in the AAA Class competition. They will also meet the two Czech junior teams, who they competed with and against at the Flyspot Open and the ISR Grand Prix. However, one of the Czech junior teams will be on a different leaderboard in Slovakia, where FAI/ISC offer three different 4-way leaderboards for three teams per nation: 4-way Open (AAA), 4-way Women (AAA), 4-way Junior (AA).
