Did You Know...

... that the Tanay 8 members were also opponents at the 8-way indoor championship?

8-way awards at the FAI Tanay Mondial
posted Dec 23rd, 2022 - The Russian Indoor Nationals 2022 included an 8-way competition, as well. The new windtunnel in Kemerovo has a 17-foot flying chamber and adds another training facility for 8-way teams to the limited number of places that offer enough space.

Russia's 8-way team from Tanay won the bronze medals at the FAI Tanay Mondial in August 2021, which took place at the skydiving center nearby. Some of the Mondial events were held in Kemerovo, as well, where the new windtunnel is located. Russia had won the FAI Outdoor World Cup gold medals in 2019 ahead of France and XP8 before placing 3rd in Tanay..

France and XP8 had two years to prepare for the re-match on Russian home turf, which was one more year than originally planned, due to the corona virus cancellation and rescheduling of the event. They used the additional time efficiently, and result was the reverse ranking in the medal positions in August 2021.

Airspeed XP8 - France - Tanay 8 at the FAI Tanay Mondial
Russia's lineup in 2021 was identical with the one of 2019, while France and XP8 both had a few changes in their 8-way lineups. Most of the names of the Russian 8-way members in the last five years appeared already in the 4-way lineups at the indoor championships, where they competed as player-coaches, as the NSL News reported on December 20th. The situation was similar in 8-way.

Tanay 8 members Vasily Korotkov, Alexey Minaev, Vladimir Pavlenko and Evgeny Stashchenko were competing with two of the Kuzbass 4-way teams, and they joined forces with their young 4-way team mates in 8-way, as well.

Valentin Ilin, Dmitry Samokhval and Alexander Tychinskiy invited three members of A Class 4-way team Nomads and Vyacheslav Stepanyuok for their 8-way lineup at the event. Alexander Tychinskiy had been the player-coach for the Nomads in the 4-way A Class competition, where his Tanay 8-way team mates placed 1st and 2nd.

Three members of the 4-way winner, IFS Moscow, competed in 8-way, as well. Alexander Golovkin, Egor Gusev and Dmitry Komkov joined forces with Bubbles team mates Olga Bykova and Alena Chistova. Alexander and Maria Odinokova completed the lineup. Olga Bykova and Alexander Odinokov had competed and won 4-way bronze medals with 2x2.

IFS Moscow's Dmitry Samokhval was their opponent in the 8-way lineup of Valentin Ilin and Alexander Tychinskiy with their Nomads. Sergey Yalpaev and Andrey Barabash were the only 8-way bronze medalists of Tanay 2021 who did not compete in 8-way at the national indoor championship with and against their 2021 team mates.
