posted Jan 2nd, 2023 - The time frame for the first meet of the 2022/2023 indoor winter season at the three Flyspot windtunnels in Poland began on November 1st, a week before the Flyspot Open 2022. The event series applies once again the extended time frame for the 10-round meet, with the option to complete the ten rounds at the three different locations, and with the four NSL categories.

Nine Polish teams posted their scores on the first leaderboard of the new indoor season, and four Czech teams joined once again on the A and RRR Class leaderboards, together with three other visiting teams from neighboring countries.

Lithuania's AAA Class team Magic 4 took the 2nd place on the November/December leaderboard and posted the team's first 20+ average at the Flyspot Open 2022.

Magic 4 was an indoor and outdoor team when they joined the international 4-way community. In fact, there were not many indoor competitions at that time, many years before the first Flyspot windtunnel was built.

The team name appears in the NSL records for the first time in 2005, when Magic 4 attended the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2005 at Skydive Arizona. However, it was not the first time that a team from Lithuania competed at FAI events.

There could not be any teams from Lithaunia at any FAI/ISC events until 1990. The country was a part of the Soviet Union at the time, which was represented by only one national team at world championships or up to four at world cups.

Russian teams of the Soviet Union joined FAI/ISC events for the first time at the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Croatia 1985. The 4-way team started in 11th place, the 8-way team finished 4th. Teams from Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia also competed for their countries at the same event, for the first time, and before they would split up into different nations, as well.

Latvia became the first Baltic country with a 4-way team at the world championship in 1993, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Lithuania followed with the country's own national 4-way team in Turkey 1997, then again in Spain 2001.

Finally it was time for Magic 4 to join the international 4-way community, which happened in 2005, according to the NSL records. It took several years until a second team from Lithuania began to post indoor and outdoor scores on international leaderboards, as well, first time at the World Challenge 2012.

Equinox took advantage of the different 4-way categories that the NSL 4-way Network offered when the team started. Equinox spent a whole year in the RRR Class at several different events and moved up into the A Class a year later. They were back at the World Challenge of 2013, where both teams from Lithuania posted scores at the same event, for the first and only time so far, on different leaderboards though.

Magic 4 have only competed in the AAA Class, which Equinox were not ready for in 2013. They still spent another year in the A Class and advanced to AA in 2015. The final move to AAA Class competition happened at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2016. Equinox completed their team decade of 4-way indoor and outdoor training and competition with two original members (Rasa Skuodiene, Algimantas Skuodis) at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 in Eloy.

Magic 4 have only attended indoor meets since they represented Lithuania at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2014 for the team's 10-year anniversary. Another eight years later, they already completed two 10-round indoor meets in November 2022.

It seems like there is a realistic chance that both teams from Lithuania will eventually appear on the same AAA Class leaderboard. It will not happen at the upcoming indoor world championship in Slovakia, where only one team from each country is eligible. Magic 4 and Equinox will have to find a way how to decide who will travel to Slovakia in April. Both teams are posting indoor scores on almost exactly the same level...
