Did You Know...

... that Chaotic Motion VIXX had four different lineups at four meets last year?

Chaotic Motion at the ISR Grand Prix 2022
posted Jan 9th, 2023 - The NSL News has covered the Dutch Formation Skydiving Project 20+ since it was launched in 2017. The project itself was eventually discontinued, while results of it are still tangible. The project updates from the Netherlands turned to the teams with former project members, and two of them are now the strongest ones on Dutch leaderboards.

Out Of The Blue, the Dutch national 4-way indoor and outdoor team, is well know in the international 4-way community after several appearances at FAI indoor and outdoor world championships and world cups. The second Dutch team with former project members, Chaotic Motion VIXX, has been in the shadow of the national team, while moving consistently closer to the country's 4-way top position.

The most recent duel at the ISR Grand Prix 2022 ended up with a 5-point advantage for OOTB after (193 - 188) the eight meet rounds in Roosendaal. The 23.5 average was a new team record number for Chaotic Motion, while Out OF The Blue finished with almost exactly the same average (24.1 - 24.0) that they had posted at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. Chaotic Motion were still 17 points behind OOTB at Airspace Charleroi in April.

Both teams then turned to outdoor training and competition and preparations for the national championships in September, and Out OF The Blue continued for another month, as they would compete for the Netherlands at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022, as well.

Original Chaotic Motion lineup in 2019
The next Dutch duel, after indoor world cup and outdoor nationals, took place at the ISR Grand Prix 2022, a month after the outdoor world meet, and Chaotic Motion VIXX were well prepared for the indoor competition.

It was still the 4th different lineup in Roosendaal at the 4th different competition for Chaotic Motion last year. Sofia van der Vlist, Danny Dörfel and Rick Verbunt provided the consistency of the lineup at all four events. They are also original members of the team and started with Chaotic Motion at the Tomscat Trophy in July 2019. Manuel Klinis completed the original lineup, with Fanny Hopmans on camera.

In fact, original members Sofia van der Vlist, Danny Dörfel and Rick Verbunt have not missed a Chaotic Motion competition yet since the team was founded, and Fanny Hopmans has filmed the team at each outdoor meet with one exception. She performed in front of the camera at this year's national outdoor championship, where Jeffrey Ham took her slot on camera. Fanny Hopmans was not needed for a camera job at the ISR Grand Prix, however, she still competed at the same event with 50 50, while her team mates challenged Out Of The Blue and HF Flying Circus on the top of the same AAA Class leaderboard.

Chaotic Motion VIXX did not volunteer the changes in the lineups. Manuel Klinis, original team member between 2019 and 2021, was injured and missed the first three meets in 2022. He was finally back only for the ISR Grand Prix.

Erwin van der Braak was the first substitute at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022. He is a former Dynamic Fource member and launched the 4-way project together with Alex Egberink in 2017. He was glad to fill the open slot in Charleroi.

Original member Sofia van der Vlist's father Hans van der Vlist then stepped in for the Tomscat Trophy 2022, when Manuel Klinis was not ready for his outdoor comeback. Chaotic Motion with Hans van der Vlist posted their scores on the AA Class leaderboard. Team videographer Fanny Hopmans then took the slot in front of the camera at the national outdoor championship, and Manuel Klinis was back for the ISR Grand Prix.

Manuel Klinis will not be back for Chaotic Motion and Jaap Keuter has committed to the new lineup. He is one of the most experienced Dutch 4-way and 8-way competitors, and he also competed with Fuel at the ISR Grand Prix in November. The Dutch race between Out Of The Blue and Chaotic Motion could become even more exciting in the near future.
