posted Jan 11th, 2023 - The NSL News aftermath of the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 included the performance of the German national team in 4-way Open, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen, with the update on 21 November 2022.

The story mentioned that Airbus had plans until 2024 before the current lineup competed for the first time at a world championship last October in Eloy. It was also the first time for team members Felix Pfeiffer and Alexander Prendinger, who competed only with the Airbus 8-way team in Australia 2018.

The preparations for the next major goal began with the first outdoor training camp at Skydive DeLand last week. Solly Williams resumed his coaching work with the team that he has guided for several years to the outdoor top position in Germany.

The NSL News had an easy opportunity to meet with the team for NSL Live Talk, which took place at the same location as at previous interviews and was partially compromised by the external noise interferences. However, it was interesting to learn the world meet experiences of the youngest and newest Airbus member Felix Pfeiffer, even though he is not so new to high-level competition. He said that he has competed at world championships in skiing before.

The Airbus 4-way team has one change in the lineup though, which happened behind the camera. Andreas Troegele, who has filmed Airbus 4-way and 8-way teams for a long time at many competitions, including last year's outdoor world championship, has stepped back.

Daniel Weiss has taken his slot behind the camera and traveled with Airbus to DeLand for the first experiences with his new team. He is not new to 4-way training and competition, even though he took an artistic break for a few years before returning to the same event.

He was filming the German Eyjafjallajokull 4-way team for three years (2016 - 2018) before the complete lineup joined the Airbus 8-way team together in 2018, except for Daniel Weiss, as Andreas Troegele was filming the 8-way team. Now he met his former Eyjafjallajokull team mate Alexander Prendinger in the Airbus 4-way lineup, and together they were well able to speak the name of their former team.

Daniel Weiss explained that he is still working on matching the team uniforms and update his own jumpsuit and equipment. However, his videos are featuring the current Airbus performance well enough at the first training camp after Eloy 2022, and he has two years before he may perform in the camera slot at his first world meet.

The NSL News also pointed out after the Eloy performance that the highest German 10-round average will surely be in jeopardy in Israel 2024. The highest meet average at a world championship was posted by the German national 4-way team in Menzelinsk 2010.

The German 22.4 average was boosted by two Super Sequences, one in Round 3 (J,M,Q,P,L - 53), the second slower one in Round 9 (O,E,9,G - 30), which was the last round for Paratec-Saar, who did not make the last cut and had no score for Round 10. The average of eight rounds without Round 3 would be 18.6 including the 30-pointer in Round 9.

The highest average at a 10-round world championship was posted by the German national team in Ottawa 2016, the Airbus lineup with Olaf Biedermann (Inside Center), Goeran Meyer (Tail), Christian Schaefer (Point) - and Thomas Mack (Outside Center), with Andreas Troegele on camera.

This means that Thomas Mack will try to outscore himself with the current lineup in a 10-round world championship competition. However, one his team mates of 2016, Christian Schaefer, has other and his own plans. He has been training and competing with the German Airfource indoor team, who won the national indoor championships last year and will compete for Germany at the FAI Indoor World Championship in Slovakia. Airfource have not posted any outdoor scores yet, which they plan to do this year. The NSL News will follow up soon with more information on this topic.
