Did You Know...

... that seven 4-way junior teams scored high at the Czech Indoor Open?

posted Jan 26th, 2023 - The NSL News covered the Czech Indoor Open 2023 on January 20th and pointed out the record participation of the event. It was not only the five guest teams from four different countries who generated the record field of 22 teams. It was once again the Czech 4-way junior factor which played a major role.

The field of teams at the Czech Indoor Open keeps growing from inside the country, as well, as the seven Czech junior teams accumulated to almost one third of the 22 teams at the Hurricane Factory this month.

The previous NSL News update covered the two AAA Class juniors, HF Flying Rebels and HF Chameleons, in their final duel for the indoor world championship qualification. They increased the number of AAA Class teams at the event to eight, even though they would still be eligible for the official 4-way Junior category on the AA Class leaderboard.

Czech team Sky 21 and Kiss My Grips from Slovakia had the AA Class leaderboard for themselves, as Flying Rebels and Chameleons have been training and competing in the AAA Class following Jan Klapka's successful junior development strategy. Czech junior team Panthers, formerly one of the two Smajlici lineups, placed 2nd in the A Class behind the Slovakian Gang Bang from Slavnica. The Panthers just moved up from the Rookie Class at the beginning of the indoor winter season in November and finished with a new team record average.

The Panthers are a part of the group of teams from Moravia, the eastern part of the Czech Republic. They cross the border to Poland regularly to train and compete at Flyspot Katowice, as HF Flying Circus member Martina Vavackova explained earlier for the NSL News.

Panthers and the other teams from Moravia had completed the ten rounds of the Czech Tunnel League's January meet at Flyspot Katowice, just a few days before the Czech Indoor Open. Then they traveled to Prague for the live event that does not sanction online participation.

The two senior teams from Moravia on the A Class leaderboard, Flyers and Cats, did exactly the same, together with the Moravian Smajlici 4-way juniors in the Rookie Class. All four teams from Moravia then competed in Prague's Hurricane Factory on the following weekend.

The RRR Class leaderboard was completely dominated by teams of Jan Klapka's 4-way junior project. Four of the six teams came out of this program, and three of them took the positions on the podium at the end of the Czech Indoor Open 2023.

Plenty of space: Unicorns in action
The members of the RRR Class winners, Helicopter, have been in the program for a few years. With the current lineup, they decided to leave the history behind and give themselves a new team name, Helicopters.

Smart Fish have been together with the same lineup even longer and started at the beginning of the indoor winter season 2021/2022. They have attended ten meets since then and finished with a 15.0 team record average at the Czech Indoor Open. Moravian team Smajlici started shortly before Helicopters took off with their new team name.

The Unicorns are the youngest generation of the Czech 4-way juniors, and they would have more than enough space in the 14-foot flying chamber to perform the complete AAA Class dive pool comfortably. However, they completed only their 4th competition this month and posted a new record average in the RRR Class, as well.

It is a competitive field of Czech 4-way junior teams on the Rookie Class leaderboards. Five of the six teams, including the two senior teams, posted highscores in any of the ten rounds of the Czech Indoor Open.

Jan Klapka sends the junior teams and competitors first into the Indoor Cloud League events, where they can collect their first competition experiences. He has to generate new Rookie Class competitors all the time, as the 4-way juniors advance quickly and usually lose Indoor Cloud League eligibility for the three Rookie Class categories (R - RR - RRR) after a short time of 4-way training. However, they are still scoring for the Czech ICL team at the Hurricane Factory - in the Rookie Class and then in the technical categories (A - AA - AAA).
