... that Last Minuet had the last word in the last round?

4-way Beginner teams at the USPA Nationals 2021
posted Mar 6th, 2023 - The combined AAA Class leaderboard of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship actually features teams from three different categories: 4-way Open, 4-way Advanced, 4-way Women. The colored overview is showing how the teams compare directly to each other, as they are using the same competition draw.

Their scores were posted on two different leaderboards at the event, and they had their own two sets of medals. The best 4-way Women team on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard qualifies as the U.S. national team for FAI/ISC events in the following year.

Three of the four teams with all-female lineups competed in 4-way Open to be eligible if they decide to attend the next FAI indoor world cup in 2024 with the U.S. delegation. Frikken's Slot Wizzard signed up for the Advanced Class competition where they had a realistic opportunity to compete for medals.

It turned out that Christy Frikken's team from Southern California ended up tied with the SDE Fly Girls on the combined leaderboard, who may add the next indoor world cup to their international 4-way experiences. The NSL News reported on 7 October 2022 that the New England team have plans to compete at the outdoor world cup in Norway this August.

Christy Frikken's Slot Wizzard team were indeed competing for medals in 4-way Advanced. It was the battle for the bronze medals that turned out as the most exciting part of the Advanced Class competition. The two Air Force teams, Night Fury and Zorro, had distanced themselves from the rest of the Advanced Class field and had their own competition with the two 4-way teams of the Qatar Falcons, White and Maroon.

Night Fury and Zorro both were the only Advanced Class teams who outscored any of the Open Class teams, Figjam and SNE Fly Girls. Other than that, the rankings on the combined AAA Class leaderboard were in perfect order between the two separate categories (4-way Open/4-way Advanced), according to the performance and scoring levels.

Where's Amer had two members of last year's AA/Intermediate Class winner (Mike Talerico, Sebastian Jimenez) in the lineup and had to step up to Advanced Class competition. The new lineup, with Bill Baker and James Hall, would have had to work hard to get to this year's medal level in the AA/Intermediate Class. James Hall took on double-duties for Where's Amer. He also competed with Lightspeed XP in the exciting duel with Skydive Midwest NEXT for the 6th place in the U.S. 4-way Open Class rankings. He was also in the Bra Nok XP lineup and won the U.S. bronze medals in 8-way Open.

Air Force teams Night Fury and Zorro both started their competition career at the USPA Nationals 2021 where they won gold (Zorro) and bronze medals (Night Fury) for the Air Force delegation. They skipped the AA/Intermediate Class competition and followed up on the AAA/Advanced Class leaderboard of the USPA Nationals 2022.

The Paraclete XP Indoor Championship last month was the start of the 2023 season and the third year for both teams. Night Fury and Zorro are also scoring for iFLY Colorado Springs at the Indoor Cloud League events, and they will be the top contenders for the USPA Advanced Class medals this year.

The competition for the bronze medals in the AAA/Advanced Class was the most exciting battle in this category. Last Minuet, Frikkens Slot Wizzard and Platinum XP took turns posting the highscores between each other round by round, and Last Minuet had the last word in the last round.

Three highly experienced 4-way competitors (Christy West, Scott Latinis, Louis French) knew how to deal with a Round 10 situation and provided a great foundation for former Toxic member Angie Scoggins in her first AAA Class competition. It was probably a good finish in this final order, as it would have been unusual if Platinum XP and Last Minuet member Louis French would have to be on the same podium with two different teams...
