Did You Know...

... that the Unicorns make a 14-foot flying chamber look much larger?

Skydive University seniors in Slovakia
posted Mar 20th, 2023 - The March meet of the Czech Tunnel League offered the next opportunity for the Czech national teams to get ready for the upcoming FAI Indoor World Championship 2023. Jan Klapka has one more competition scheduled before the Czech delegation will travel to the neighboring Slovakia for this year's indoor showdown.

The last meet of the Czech Tunnel League 2022/2023 takes place on April 12th at the Hurricane Facxtory in Prague, a week before Round 1 on April 20th at the Hurricane Factory Tatralandia.

The three Czech national 4-way teams, HF Cubs (4-way Women), HF Flying Circus (4-way Open), HF Flying Rebels (4-way Junior) placed once again in the Top 3 positions on the AAA Class leaderboard in March, and the Flying Rebels juniors even claimed one sole highscore in Round 7 over the two senior teams.

The Flying Rebels are still posting AAA Class scores, even though they will perform AA Class sequences at the indoor world championship. The second 4-way Junior team on the AAA Class leaderboard, HF Chameleons, will not compete in Slovakia, while they continue to put as much competition pressure on the Flying Rebels as possible. The 4-way Junior duel in the AAA Class ended with an 8-point advantage for the national team this time.

The Czech teams were not alone on the March leaderboard. In fact, teams participated at the three locations that the NSL News had introduced with the indoor update on 29 November 2022. Most of the Czech teams completed the ten March rounds at the Hurricane Factory in Prague, and the four Moravian teams crossed the border to Poland and used the Flyspot windtunnel in Katovice.

Two more teams from Slovakia joined the March competition and performed the same sequences in their home chamber at the Hurricane Factory Tatralandia, host of the upcoming indoor world championship. The all-female lineup of Kiss My Grips competed in the AAA Class, after their first ten rounds on the AA leaderboard of the Czech Indoor Open 2023 in January.

With Kiss My Grips, the hosting nation may have national teams in all three horizontal FAI 4-way categories (Open, Women, Junior). A new team from Slovakia, SDU GenZ, was alone on the AA Class leaderboard. The senior team of the Skydive University Slovakia is probably competing for the host in 4-way Open.

The two Czech national teams in the senior events, HF Cubs and HF Flying Circus, will probably have much more work at the indoor world championship than the HF Flying Rebels, who are the top contenders in 4-way Junior. The HF Cubs won the previous set of FAI gold medals in 4-way Junior in 2019.

HF Cubs won the 4-way Women competition at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022, however, the competition in Slovakia will be much more challenging, as the reigning outdoor world champions from Great Britain, NFTO, are registered for the event, and France recently announced a very strong 4-way Women lineup.

The competition in 4-way Open may offer the 5th place as the best finish for all other teams behind the Top 4 at the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 and the Shamrock Showdown 2023. HF Flying Circus will try to defend the impressive 6th place that they claimed in Charleroi last year and probably aim at this 5th place at the same time.

The next generation of Czech 4-way juniors keeps growing in Jan Klapka's 4-way school. The juniors of the Panthers have been outscoring the seniors of the Moravian Flyers and Cats regularly since December 2022 in the A Class competition, and the Helicopters are winning the Rookie Class on a high scoring level.

The youngest, and smallest, lineup of the Unicorns make the 14-foot flying chamber of the Hurricane Factory look like any 16-foot chamber for seniors. It is very much worth taking a closer look at the team's video of the ten competition rounds in the Rookie Class.
