posted Mar 22nd, 2023 - The NSL News covered the good number of guest teams at the German Indoor Nationals with a closer look at the lineups with the update on March 14th. The story on March 15th followed up with the “almost four teams” in the 4-way Women category.

One of the four teams was the new Swiss national team in 4-way Women, Airdrops, who will compete for their country at the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023. The NSL News mentioned that Airdrops followed up on the 19.5 average in Germany with a 20.4 at their own national indoor championships.

The addition of Airdrops to the teams who plan to compete at the indoor world championship brings the number of teams with competitors registered for the event next month in Slovakia to six of the 16 teams on the AAA Class leaderboard in Germany.

Four of the six teams attended the event with their complete lineups who will soon travel to Slovakia. Jochen Schweizer Arena's Airfource will compete in 4-way Open, Piteraq, Airdrops and Fire Phoenix in 4-way Women. Weembi International and Kuddelmuddel had team members who will join the 4-way Women competition with their own teams, Sian Stokes (Weembi), Elizabeth Kennedy and Vana Parker (Kuddelmuddel) with NFTO, Christine Malnis (Weembi) with France.

Piteraq - Airdrops - Fire Phoenix at the German Indoor Nationals 2023

Piteraq, Airdrops and Fire Phoenix have a re-match in Slovakia, after their warm-up competition in Germany. Piteraq won FAI bronze medals at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022 a year ago and is facing tough competition on the medal level.

Airdrops will be the first team from Switzerland competing at indoor world championships. There was only one Swiss 4-way Women team in history at an outdoor world championship. Karin Feldmann, Helena Kuebler, Andrea Meier and Sandra Siegenthaler finished in 7th place at the FAI World Championship 2006, with Juerg Gysler on camera.

Teams in 4-way Women at the last indoor world championship needed a 20+ average to stay away from the bottom of the leaderboard. The Norwegian Voss Vind Girls finished with a 20.9 average in this position at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019. Last year at the FAI Indoor World Cup in Charleroi, a 20+ average was enough to finish in 5th place of seven teams.

Italy's new 4-way Women team Fire Phoenix have consistently increased their meet averages in the four events since November 2022. Medal positions are out of reach, however, the 13.5 average of the Squadra Militare Femminile in Charleroi last year is probably a good target for Fire Phoenix. They will be the first Italian team at an indoor world championship, as well.

The German indoor championship also included leaderboards in the three other NSL categories, and two of the numerous Paranodon Futura teams won the A and RRR Class events. Paranodon owner Robert Trögele created the Futura 4-way project at his skydiving center in Illertissen, and he can now look at convincing results of it.

Felix Pfeiffer started in one of the project teams years ago. He is now a member of the German national outdoor team, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen, and attended his first outdoor world championship in October last year. Paranodon's young signature team, Paranodon 4way Illertissen, won the bronze medals at last year's outdoor championship.

Paranodon's A Class team Futura 6 won this category with the most interesting lineup. Former Airbus videographer Andrea Trögele, son of business owner and German national coach Robert Trögele, joined forces with his own son, Julius Trögele. Their team mate Tim Mack is the son of Airbus member Thomas Mack, one of the most experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors in Germany.

Andrea Trögele decided to get into the middle of the 4-way action after years on camera for the best German 4-way and 8-way teams. He said that the young original team members allowed him to join in the point slot and compromise the team's average age. However, he is keeping up with the Futura youngsters, as the meet video is showing. The same lineup will continue with outdoor training and competition, as well.
