Did You Know...

... that the Florida Skydiving League has potential for a comeback after the Shamrock Shamrock 2023?

Direct access: Funderbirads with Chief Judge Jim Rees
posted Mar 25th, 2023 - The Shamrock Showdown 2023 brought together the best national 4-way teams in the world earlier this month, who represent their countries at the world championships and world cups. The performance and quality level cannot be any better than at this event.

However, the event also offers the unique opportunity for any other teams to be at the same time at the same place and share the facilities and logistics with the same top teams. The world championships and world cups every other year are limited to AAA Class competition, with the 4-way Junior event (AA) in addition at indoor events.

These events also have other restrictions. Only one team per nation is eligible to compete at world championships, while the rules for the world cups allow four teams in all Formation Skydiving categories.

The Shamrock Showdown of the National Skydiving League has no limitations and restrictions, even though the judging of the actual competition follows the FAI/ISC Rules very strictly. FAI Judge Jim Rees at the Shamrock Showdown made sure that the 4-way rules would be applied correctly, while his InTime judging partners in South Africa provided judging experiences and expertise and the InTime scoring system for the event. All 4-way teams, including the AA and A Class teams, enjoyed the privilege of high-quality judging at the Shamrock Showdown and direct access to Chief Judge Jim Rees.

Final preparations for Round 10 in the AA Class
Not only the currently four best teams in the world required and deserved all the attention of the highly experienced judges for their next showdown after the FAI Outdoor World Championship in October last year.

The NSL News aftermath of the Shamrock Showdown covered the interesting situation at and after the first competition of the same 4-way teams in the new 2-year cycle towards the next world championship in 2024 comprehensively, and the AAA Class leaderboard alone speaks its own language with numbers and videos.

However, there was also very tight competition on the AA Class leaderboard that Jim Rees, Claire King and Dirk Venter had to follow carefully round by round.

There was only a 2-point difference between Project Danny and 4Action after Round 8, and anything was possible with two more rounds to come.

The AAA Class teams were still in action on Saturday and completed their 10-round competition at the end of the day. It was the day when the best teams in the world shared the ground work, facilities and sometimes the loads of the Cessna Caravan with the AA and A Class teams.

DeLand's Hit Show - Waitin' on a Woman - Funderbirds at the Shamrock Showdown 2023
AA Class opponents 4Action and Project Danny
The final showdown in the AA and A Class competitions happened on Sunday, when some of the top teams (Arizona Airspeed, NMP PCH HayaBusa, France) made training jumps from the PAC 750XL, the jump plane for the 4-way world championship competition in Israel 2024.

DeLand's Hit Show were well ahead of the other A Class teams from Florida on their home turf. Waitin' for a Woman visited from Skydive Palatka, and the Funderbirds train at Skydive Sebastian. The Palatka team completed their eight rounds on Saturday only, while the Funderbirds eventually took the 2nd place with the two additional scoring numbers on Sunday.

The tightest competition of all leaderboards was actually the showdown between Project Danny from Skydive City and 4Action from Skydive Sebastian. The most experienced team member, Mike Talerico, guided his team through the exciting last two rounds, while Anion Flux XP member Felipe Giustina was trying to close the gap with his 4Action lineup.

All five teams on the AA and A Class leaderboards came from Florida, which indicates that the Florida Skydiving League might be ready for a comeback, as well, after the three devastating years of the corona virus crisis.
