posted Mar 29th, 2023 - It used be normal procedure on almost any given weekend before the corona virus crisis that indoor or outdoor events would happen to take place at the same time, and the NSL 4-way Network connected them by synchronizing the competition draws. Result would be more interesting leaderboards with teams who were geographically far away from each other.

This format is still a part of the NSL 4-way Network and will hopefully come back to the same level of relevance with the slowly ongoing recovery of the sport.

Most recently, two different indoor events applied the same competition draw and created a combined leaderboard at SKYLEAGUE.COM that had several interesting aspects. It was the Fööni Open in Helsinki, Finland, that used the same competition draw of the Swiss Indoor Nationals and turned the related leaderboard into an international competition with teams from three different countries.

Six Swiss teams competed at Realfly Sion in Switzerland, and the two Finnish teams were joined by Aurora from Sweden at the the Fööni Open. The combined leaderboard includes two teams (Realfly Fire, Purple Maze) who will represent their countries at the upcoming FAI Indoor World Championship 2023.

Airheads - RealFly Fire - Airdrops at the Swiss Indoor Nationals 2023

The winner in Switzerland, Airheads, had represented the country at the previous indoor world championship at Weembi Lille 2019, where they impressed with a 5th place and a 29.2 average. A similar performance could bring Airheads again close to the area of medal contention.

However, Airheads will not compete for Switzerland in Slovakia. Realfly Fire, runner-up at the national indoor championship, takes the Swiss slot in 4-way Open, as the preview leaderboard is showing.

This is probably good news for Finland's national team, Purple Maze, who used the same competition draw this month.

Airheads were too far away on the combined leaderboard, and the situation would probably be the same at the indoor world championship if Airheads made the trip to Slovakia.

Purple Maze finished the same competition draw 14 points ahead of Realfly Fire who they will meet in direct competition very soon. Finland's national indoor team has a good chance to improve the ranking position of the previous event if they can maintain the advantage.

Purple Maze - Aurora at the Fooni Open 2023

Purple Maze posted a new team record average this month, which would be Finland's new record average at national indoor championships. The 44-pointer for the Super Sequence in Round 10 was also a new Finnish record for a single round.

The Pro Team owned the record numbers and dominated 4-way competition in Finland for many years. Three of the Purple Maze members (Emilia Sormunen, Eija Suvala, Matthew Iles) trained and competed with the Pro Team until the Pohjola family members stepped back in turns. Nadja Lönnroth took the last open slot when Kimmo Pohjola left, and Purple Maze started with a fresh name.

Switzerland and Finland both will now be represented by new teams. Airheads (5th - 29.2) and Pro Team (11th - 24.6) were separated by seven ranking positions in 2019, while Realfly Fire and Purple Maze seem to be much closer to each other in reversed order.

Swiss 4-way Women team Airdrops will travel to Slovakia together with Realfly Fire. The event will be the first international FAI experience for the new Swiss team. They competed as a guest team at the German Indoor Nationals before the Swiss indoor championship, where they collected their first international meet experiences. The NSL News had introduced Airdrops with some of the 4-way Women teams at the same event with the update on March 15th.
