posted Apr 14th, 2023 - The NSL News took a closer look at the teams behind NFTO in 4-way Open and Qatar Falcons in 8-way Open at the Weembi FS Cup 2023 to follow up on the previous story.

The lineups included once again names of 4-way and 8-way competitors of different generations. The event format, rules and regulations at Weembi Lille do not have too many restrictions or limitations, and one result of it are the colorful lineups at the Weembi events.

Julien Degen himself, former 4-way and 8-way world champion, who is one of the operators of the Weembi Lille windtunnel, takes full advantage of the format, and he shares his wealth of knowledge and experiences with as many participants as possible.

This time, his name can be found in three of the seven 4-way lineups (Unicorns, FCUK, Vedett) and he also competed in 8-way with Ultim8 Weembi and FCUK OFTN. His Unicorns lineup was in a 1-point battle for the 3rd place with Nice Fano, while Ultim8 finished with a 2-point advantage over FCUK OFTN in 2nd place.

Nice Fano - Unicorns at the Weembi FS Cup 2023

Neither Julien Degen's lineups nor any other 4-way or 8-way teams were able to challenge British top team NFTO and Qatar Falcons seriously in their top positions on the 4-way and 8-way leaderboards. It was the final test for NFTO before entering the 4-way Women competition at the indoor world championship as the top favorite, while Qatar Falcons are trying to use any opportunity to collect additional competition experiences.

The FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 does not include 8-way competition, as 14-foot flying chambers cannot accommodate this event. 8-way teams had once the opportunity to be a part of an indoor world championship in the past, when Weembi Lille hosted the event in 2019. The Qatar Falcons finished in 4th place at the event.

Ever since, and even before, 8-way teams have been using other events to get competition experiences at indoor locations where the host has a 16+ flying chamber available. Most of the 8-way teams at the Weembi FS Cup are also regular visitors at Paraclete XP's indoor competitions. The Qatar Falcons have attended all four 8-way events that have been held between the USPA Nationals 2022 in September last year and the Weembi FS Cup.

Ultim8 Weembi - FCUK OFTN at the Weembi FS Cup 2023

The 8-way team in 2nd place, Weembi Lille's home team Ultim8, was put together for the Weembinamic 2022 in November last year, where the combination of former 8-way world champions and other top competitors took the 1st place.

There was only one change in the lineup, as Martial Ferre replaced Alban Rumolo, who will compete for France at the upcoming indoor world championship. Mathieu Quizy, Alban Rumolo's team mate in 4-way Open, still competed in 8-way at the Weembi FS Cup, less than two weeks before Round 1 in Slovakia.

Mathieu Quizy also competed in 4-way where he has performed next to Julien Degen for Unicorns Weembi since April 2022.

Mathieu Quizy's and Julien Degen's 8-way team mates Julien Losantos, Livio Piccolo and Erwan Pouliquen outscored The Unicorns in 4-way by one single point, with Maro Arrigo in the lineup for a Nice Fano combination of two highly experienced French and two Italian top competitors. Federico Angelotti, Martial Ferre and Roy Janssen completed this Ultim8 lineup behind the Falcons. Mathieu Quizy and Marco Arrigo will be once again 4-way opponents in Slovakia, where France will try to challenge Arizona Airspeed, while Italy's FLY X have their eyes on the 5th place behind the medal contenders.
