Did You Know...

... that Arizona Airspeed had 4-way junior business at the Hurricane Factory in Prague?

Awards at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022
posted Apr 18th, 2023 - The NSL News has moved a littler bit closer to the Hurricane Factory Tatralandia in Slovakia. The countdown continues with a live update from Prague, where Arizona Airspeed and XPG4 have been training for a few days, and the NSL News arrived just in time for the last training session on the last Monday before Round 1 of the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 this Thursday.

Arizona Airspeed have been considered the uncontested top favorite for the 4-way Open Class competition, after winning the FAI Outdoor World Championship 2022 by 31 points over NMP PCH HayaBusa, and by 20 points over France and the other same opponents at the Shamrock Showdown 2023.

The order of 4-way power was not much different at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2022, where Airspeed won by 29 points over France. The hopes of the same opponents that they might be closer at the upcoming indoor competition are high, while Arizona Airspeed actually has no reason to look at the situation behind them.

No 4-way expert recommended or asked for a change in the NSL Power Rankings, where the U.S. world champions have been expected to finish as the sole leader after Round 10.

Arizona Airspeed and XPG4 in Training at the Hurricane Factory Prague
Jan Klapka with Arizona Airspeed at the Hurricane Factory Prague
The NSL News could have staid at Flyspot Wroclav, as well, to follow the previous 4-way indoor and outdoor world champions in their last preparations for the upcoming indoor competition in Slovakia. NMP PCH HayaBusa unexpectedly added a few hundred miles to their travel agenda to train at the same place where HF Flying Circus was until Sunday.

All three windtunnels in Wroclav, Prague and Slovakia are almost identical and can be used for realistic competition training. The 14-foot flying chambers are even more important for Arizona Airspeed and XPG4 who have to transition from their 16-foot home chamber to the 14-foot size at the world championship in Slovakia.

Members of both teams confirmed the relevance of training in a 14-foot flying chamber, as the visuals and references are significantly different, compared to Paraclete XP's 16-foot chamber. The situation is similar in several countries in Europe where some of the teams are usually training in other 16-foot windtunnels.

The NSL-TV Unfiltered video is showing both U.S. teams in training action at the Hurricane Factory Prague. XPG4 completed more flying time on Monday than Arizona Airspeed, who had additional chores on their agenda later the same day.

Czech 4-way Junior teams with Arizona Airspeed coaches
Niklas Hemlin with his Czech junior following
Jan Klapka is always running the weekly training day for his 4-way juniors on Monday, which happened to be the last training day for Arizona Airspeed and XPG4, as well. He had asked the Airspeed members to stay longer after the completion of their own training and be available for the teams of the Czech 4-way delegation (HF Flying Circus, HF Cubs, HF Flying Rebels), and also for the HF Chameleons.

Original plan was to mix up the lineups with 2-2 combinations and give all Czech national 4-way teams the experience of flying with the world champions. Unfortunately, Airspeed members had to deal with some minor injuries and needed resting time after their own training.

However, at least Mikhail Markine and Joey Marshall were able to take the extra time and provide external coaching for the teams. Niklas Hemlin became a very popular celebrity when he showed up at the beginning time of the training for the youngest generation of Czech 4-way competitors.

He created a very excited young following when he talked to the Czech 4-way juniors, who communicated with him in English language. The 4-way junior part of this NSL-TV Unfiltered video begins with the complete lineup of Smart Fish who introduced themselves to the audience.
