Did You Know...

... that seven former and current Skydive Midwest NEXT members are on the new ICL Midwest leaderboard?

posted May 3rd, 2023 - It is very unusual if Indoor Cloud League teams end up with tied totals for the six monthly sequences. It is even more unusual when it happens on the top of the leaderboard. In fact, it happened only once in the history of the 14+ leaderboards until the teams of the Hurricane Factory and ICL Midwest finished with 123 points both for the month of April.

It was in January 2018 when the Czech teams at the Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP's lineups tied their totals of 128 points for the highest scoring number. The NSL News reported the unusual situation on 4 February 2018, after both teams had submitted their scores and videos, together with the teams from Dallas and Tampa. Three more teams added their scores to the January leaderboard after the tied totals of 128 points were posted, and Paraclete XP and Hurricane Factory were still on the top of the leaderboard at the end of the month.

The teams who are currently posting scores for the Hurricane Factory and ICL Midwest finished with a total of 123 points, which has the potential to win the April competition. More scores will still be added to the same April leaderboard, and the tied total could also end up as the score for the 2nd place. However, a tied total at any position on the ICL leaderboards is as unusual as it is on other traditional leaderboards. The NSL News pointed out at several previews of the FAI Indoor World Championship 2023 how close the competition would be in 4-way Open and 4-way Women both, anywhere on the leaderboards, and there was eventually only one tie after all ten rounds.

Original Skydive Midwest NEXT lineup in 2015
ICL Midwest's Indoor Cloud League team came back into action after a 2-month break, and the complete Skydive Midwest NEXT lineup took care of the two Open Class sequences (AAA/AA). They were indirectly opposing two Czech teams (HF Flying Circus, HF Flying Rebels) and two Air Force teams (Tall Boys, Artemis) for the highest scores in the two categories.

NEXT tied the 23-pointer of the two Czech teams for the AAA Class sequence and finished one point behind the Czech 4-way junior team for the AA sequence, which could be drawn for a 4-way Junior competition, as well as for the 4-way Open Class. HF Flying Rebels won the competition at the FAI Indoor World Championship in April without any serious opposition, after posting the AAA/AA scores for the ICL April competition.

Not only the current Skydive Midwest NEXT lineup was in ICL action in April. Team founder Megan George, who stepped back at the end of the 2022 season, was player-coaching her A Class lineup to the highest score in this category, which was tied by Czech senior team Accord. Lauren Byrd, her NEXT team mate in 2020 - 2022, was guiding another lineup through the ICL event. Last and not least, original NEXT member Matt Congdon was coaching his ICL lineup (Sally Finley, Chuck Finley, Ray Medley) to the Midwest highscores for two of the Rookie Class sequences (RRR/RR) and had a second lineup to work with. He had trained and competed with NEXT in 2015 - 2017.
