Did You Know...

... that the United Kingdom Skydiving League's June meet featured three potential A Class medal contenders?

British Army Volt4ge at the UKSL June meet
posted Jun 7th, 2023 - British 4-way teams followed up on their outdoor season opener in May with the second meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League at Skydive Langar. Nine participating teams increased the number of teams by two, after the seven teams at the first event in Sibson.

Volt4ge of the British Army and Vantage repeated their duel that they had in May with the same outcome, even though the point difference changed from 28 points at the season opener to six points at the beginning of this month.

Both teams have a multi-year competition history, which began for Vantage in the AA Class of 2017. British Army Volt4ge started a year later in the A Class. They attended many of the same events ever since, before they eventually shared the same leaderboard for the first time. This finally happened when Volt4ge were done with their AA Class time after three meets in 2021, even though it would still take another year until the first AAA Class duel with Vantage.

Vantage had moved up into AAA Class competition in 2018, after their first year in the AA Class where they attended six meets, including the World Challenge, the British Outdoor Nationals and Bodyflight Bedford's Revenge event.

British AAA Class team Vantage
British Army's Volt4ge launched their AAA Class career at the British indoor Nationals 2022 that Vantage did not attend. In fact, both teams neither met at any of the UKSL 4-way competitions nor at the national outdoor championship in 2022, even though they were now training and competing in the same category.

Volt4ge and Vantage finally made up for the missed AAA Class opportunities in 2022 and had their first two duels alone on the AAA Class leaderboards of May and June at the meets of the United Kingdom Skydiving League. AA Class winner Chillies did not have any opposition on their leaderboard.

It became much more interesting in the A Class, where Wavey Wackers and Antigravity repeated their own duel, after the first meet in May. Both teams increased their averages enough to get close to the usual level of medal contention at the British national outdoor championships. There is more than enough time for both teams to continue the progression until September.

Antigravity had won the same A Class duel last year at the bottom of the British outdoor leaderboard, after winning the British Rookie Class title in 2021, and Wavey Wackers have now turned the table twice this year, only by one single point in June.

Antigravity - British Rookie Class champions of 2021
Wavey Wackers and Antigravity were alone on the A Class leaderboard in May, and it became even more interesting last weekend. Children of the Corn joined the two teams on the A Class leaderboard in Langar and took the 1st place right away.

Children in the Corn were still competing in the Rookie Class of the national outdoor championship last year and moved up to the A Class at the indoor championship in December. They missed the May meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League and now won the A Class over Wavey Wackers and Antigravity.

In fact, the winning average of 8.5 is already very close to the 8.8 that Nemesis needed last year to win the A Class gold medals at the outdoor championship. Children of the Corn have taken one of the top positions as a medal contender for this year's A Class title, and the two other teams in the same category this month could be in contention for the other medal positions, as well.

APA Netheravon is hosting the third and last UKSL meet this year at the beginning of July, before the British 4-way teams will compete for medals in the same four categories at the national outdoor championship early in September.
